ImpactHK is the only charity in Hong Kong that helps the elderly and homeless throughout the city. Each month, they serve the community through 20 Kindness Walks visiting some of the poorest areas of the city and providing the community with food, drinks, clothing and toiletries, but most importantly love and kindness. Many of the homeless ImpactHK's volunteers come across are over 70 years old. These are hundreds of elderly men and women suffering from various disabilities with age, poor eyesight and immobility nevertheless having to go through intensive physical labor collecting cardboard boxes just to get by. Most upsetting of all without any of their children or grandchildren in sight is how fragile, helpless and lonely they are. ImpactHK believes that nobody deserves to be on the streets and that everyone deserves to have someone that cares. Their mission is not only to provide physical help for their survival but to also let this community know that they are loved and cared for through their weekly chats and hugs - a smile and helping hand can go a very long way! Join me in supporting ImpactHK's next mission to build a facility for the homeless that will shelter over 200 homeless individuals. Their first milestone is to raise HKD350,000 to cover the facility's first year's rent which will provide shelter, security, free clothing, and even haircuts and job training. Clifford, my rescue dog, got a second chance when he got rescued from an abusive owner who tied his (and his 4 brothers) muzzle with cable wires and left him outside on a podium for many years. He was brought to a kennel to find a new home, but due to kennel stress it took him more then 2 years to get adopted. Many times people looked at him and didn't give him a chance, until we started to foster him and now he is the most loving and caring dog in the world. He deserved a second chance and became a whole new dog. He has love to give and kindness to spread. Like him, many people don't choose the horrible situations they live in. But they are treated like trash. They are seen as outcast, dangerous; somebody to stay away from. But they are humans, with their own stories, friendships to offer and they deserve a second chance like we all do.Me and Clifford will use our passion for hiking to raise money for ImpactHK. You can help me by sponsoring us financially or join us on our hikes. ImpactHK will use this money to fund their new location, from which they will support even more homeless all across HK.

Having a facility will provide us with a safe space to further our connections with homeless individuals looking to get off the street. We will have a free clothing section where homeless individuals can select the clothing they want. We will be able to provide counselling and even give haircuts to the homeless. Having a facility will provide us with location for job training. We will start a painting company called The Second Coat Painting Co. In this centre our painters could learn how to paint and be ready for work. Having a facility will allow us to further combat food waste. We will be able to receive donations from charities supporting food waste and also work directly with companies and farms who have excess products which we could use to support the poor. We have found an ideal location in the heart of Sham Shui Po within walking distance to nearly 200 homeless people. We are seeking to raise $350,000 in order to pay for our first year's rent. This is a large number, but achievable if we all work together! We calculated the fundraising goal of $350,000 based on a monthly rate of $28,000 per month plus real estate fees. ImpactHK has reached where we are today due to our large number of caring volunteers. I am fundraising for ImpactHK, a charity which directly helps the homeless people of Hong Kong. Currently they run 20 'kindness walks' a month, to hand out valuable supplies such as food, water, clothing, soap and laundry tickets, and equally importantly to listen and talk to them. They also run other events such as making mats and organising haircuts for the homeless. ImpactHK want to expand their support for the homeless by renting a space in which they can offer other valuable services such as free counselling sessions and training to help the people find work. So in order to inspire you to donate, I am pledging to run 5 km a day for a month. I will have one day off on 12th July as I fly to the UK then. So that's thirty 5 km runs for the month of July: nearly 100 miles! I am really unfit and hate running so this is a big deal for me. The first few runs will be especially hard as I have done zero training – The last time I ran was 3 years ago and I've had two babies since then! I really believe in this charity's work so I want to push myself on their behalf. Please consider donating and making a real difference <3

So ImpactHK is basically a guy that wanted to help the local community so he set up a team of volunteers and created some set walks around Hong Kong where the volunteers make a donation or bring supplies and then hand them out to the needy. Jeff has expanded this to at least two kindness walks per week plus other activities and the aim is just to give warmth and necessities to those in need. I've been on some of the walks and the living conditions suck! Not necessarily worse than the UK (my homeland) but they get a lot less support from the government here.Rent vs. minimum wage divide is ridiculous here, taking into account that what you get for the extortionate amount of money you pay out is very little. Some people in HK live in basically a coffin- like room that has everything in a very tiny space with walls directly around the person. Even some that are working full time can't afford to live and I mean they're working but still homeless. So I'm going to run this 15k run around the end of August/1st September. Honestly I'm not looking forward to it, I feel yukky just thinking about it, but if I can do my bit to help ImpactHK then it will be worthwhile so please consider sponsoring me (can be ££££ or $$$$$) and sharing my page with your friends/colleagues etc. because really, every cent/penny will count. My target is £100/$1000HKD, I'm not expecting people to give massive amounts at all.EDIT: I raised the target because I surpassed it within 12 hours! Thanks to everyone so far.

" We rise by lifting others". Robert Ingersoll Seven years ago I moved to the most beautiful and breathtaking city of Hong Kong. You cannot help but be dazzled by the harbour, bright lights and vast mountainous terrain that rests behind the skyscrapers. The hustle and bustle of people going about their daily lives is a sight to behold. The chinks of glasses from bars and cafes as people enjoy an evening of drinks after a busy day at work,deciding if they want to sweat through the humidity or shiver in the aircon. You cannot help but be drawn to the wonderful people in Hong Kong, and what may appear on the outside to be an easy city to live in. Despite this, it is clear that life is a struggle for the homeless community in Hong Kong, often hidden from the eyes of residents and tourists. The plight of the homeless in hong kong is desperate, incredibly sad and often frustrating. But there are two sides to every story...therefore I wanted to tell you about the amazing people that I have met in the homeless shelters across Hong Kong. Their sense of community, helping each other despite having little or nothing to share. There sense of gratitude for the support they get. For their sense of optimism and smiles regardless of their situations. There interest in you (where you are from). There resilience and perseverance through tough weather conditions in Hong Kong. I personally have learned a great deal from our homeless community. They are part of our community, kindness does matter, and they are not forgotten. We are raising this money not only to continue supporting kindness donations, but also to get a venue to begin changing peoples lives through a job creation project. Time is of the essence, it is so important to nurture that energy and positive spirit which is so clear in our homeless communities before it is consumed. Please help us, to help them.
