I decided I wanted to foster/help dogs in early 2022, so I travelled to LAP's center in Tsuen Wan on a whim. The moment I walked in, I asked to see the scariest, most difficult and sickly dog they have, and they showed me Yankee. A malnourished Yankee walked (clawed his way) out, and he was scared out of his mind. His claws would be almost digging through the floor to get away from the center volunteers, bloodily scratching everyone in the process, with such fearful eyes that were glassy and simply couldn't focus on a single thing for more than a second. The volunteers said they hadn't seen such a fearful dog in a while and worried if Yankee would ever get adopted. "I'll take him", I said. I fostered him for over 6 months before Yankee slowly turned into a gentle, loyal, sensitive and (selectively) playful dog. He still never gets mad at any hoomen nor dogs, and stays absolutely loyal to his best friends and girlfriend Nala. But for over a year, training Yankee was the most difficult and emotional draining, sleep-deprived experience I've ever had, and many friends have seen me break down too many times. Throughout the process, LAP volunteers would come over to Wan Chai to help train Yankee, reimburse me for some training courses I pay at my expense and subsidising kibbles when Yankee had to keep switching food due to his sensitive stomach (I've gone through over 20 brands) etc. LAP is an organization that relies completely on individual volunteers' initiation and donations, and therefore frequently in need of help and donation. They're also one of the few no-kill shelters in town and thus have many dogs that stayed at LAP for many years. The best way to help LAP really is to volunteer your time, but any donation would be a good cause and massive help to them. They've rescued Yankee from trauma and will continue to do so to more dogs to come, and I sincerely hope to continuously help them as much as I can.

I would like to dedicate my 3rd birthday party to my lovely fur brother Theo.Theo first joined the Ong family from LAP Lifelong Animal Protection Charity in 2019 (even before me!) Daddy and Mummy said Theo had a strong character, perhaps because he had been let down by humans and never received the love he deserved. For my birthday this year - instead of gift of toys - please give the gift of love to those dogs and cats who share similar stories as Theo.https://www.lap.org.hk/default.aspx

September is a big month in our household! Becca turns 30, and Ernie, our rescue husky, celebrates his first anniversary in his new home. To mark this special occasion, we're raising funds for Lifelong Animal Protection (LAP) — the charity I adopted Ernie through in September 2022.There are lots of dogs like Ernie in Hong Kong that are waiting for a second chance for a home and family, so for my birthday this year I'd love if you could help us to give back to LAP, and support their work rescuing and rehoming animals. Every little helps, all donations are appreciated <3

Rina would like to ask her friends to help support the LAP Lifelong Animal Protection Charity! She was introduced to this charity organization through her "Animal Rescuers" unit at her kindergarten last year. She had a chance to learn about the charity's mission, "to help animals in Hong Kong and to bring about the conditions whereby every animal has a good home," when LAP visited her class in May. Rina was inspired to make a difference; and we are helping her fundraise for the charity. If you are kindly considering giving a gift to Rina for her 6th birthday, Rina would like to ask you to donate to LAP in lieu of a gift. She would be so happy if you could help her support LAP. Thank you!!

Corgi baby Emmy was born with a serious back leg and hips deformity. She is an extra sweet, calm and patient, puppy, perhaps the type many people dream to own. Gets along well with dogs and cats at foster homeBut casual inbreeding in the process of “producing” pure breed dogs for sale, might have caused her deformity, she lacked the NormaL curvature of a dogs back leg, her knee is as if twisted pointing back instead of front. She walks like the Chinese Halloween vampire, hopping. It might be ok for now, but not long after even her spine will hurt.Vet n us all agreed to try surgery on her legs, but that will require physiotherapy right after, surgery turns the bone structure back to the right direction, but the whole muscle memory needs to learn and that requires consistent, daily if not hourly exercise, which our foster has been amazing in dedicating her time and effort in.Even with everybody’s help, her surgery is costly, only the first surgery costed $35,241, and that’s only medical expense.Physiotherapy expense will also be tens of thousand, as it won’t be sth 1 or 2 sessions can “cure”.Fortunately in hk we have trusted animal physiotherapist, who is experienced and seen many bone surgery recovery patients. She ensures we learn the bone structure, make sure everyone learnt the exercises correctly.Road of recovery is still very long.We can’t be sure if she can walk again, but we’ll try at least.

We are very grateful to be able to celebrate our wedding with our family and friends in HK. We have everything we need so instead of a traditional wedding registry, we ask that should you wish to contribute to our wedding, you can consider donating to Lifelong Animal Protection (LAP). This charity is very dear to our heart because it has given us Tira. LAP rescues animals like Tira all across Hong Kong, who was found with her brothers during a typhoon signal eight in the mountains. For more information on the work that they do, go to: http://www.lap.org.hk/default.aspxJandira

So many people have been hard hit by COVID in Hong Kong, at a time when Hong Kong already has so many challenges to face. But please also spare a thought for the animals who are being abandoned and neglected. I recently visited Lifelong Animal Protection‘s (LAP) cat shelter in Sai Ying Pun and met Sooty. Kept caged all her short life, and bred for profit, she developed tilt neck and a chronic ear infection which went untreated for so long that she needed invasive surgery to address it. She is currently being nursed back to health by the wonderful volunteers at LAP and will hopefully soon be ready to move to a good home. But her surgery was very expensive, and has drained the resources of LAP at this difficult time. Please help me to raise money for Sooty’s medical costs. I will match all donations up to a total of HK$10,000 and all the money raised will go the LAP to help them with the vital work they do.

Toriana used to be breeder cat before I fostered her. She was in a very bad condition when LAP found her. She was diagnosed as pyometra, the vet had to remove her womb immediately because of her condition then. However, the cost of the surgery is pretty high. That’s why I decided to start this fundraising for LAP, so more cats or kittens can be saved by the organization, like they saved Toriana.
