Known locally by city dwellers in the heart of Kuala Lumpur mainly at the street of Chow Kit and China town as #tempatrina @ Pertubuhan Kesihatan dan Kebajikan Umum Malaysia (PKKUM) Drop-In-Centre is an avenue or a safe haven for all in needs of help irregardless their socio-economic background such as (key population community);

  1. Social justice protection - by providing assistance to the minority and underrepresented key population community.
  2. Community System Strengthening (CSS) - by organizing health programs and activities with the aim of creating health-conscious for the key population community and increasing wellbeing.
  3. Spreading equality to all / non-biased / mitigate service delivery gaps – by providing a comprehensive referral system for the needy to relevant agencies and service provider that is nondiscriminating and non-judgmental.
  4. Exemplary - by propagating and spearheading best practices, evidence-based and spreading awareness on the need of self-care and preventive approaches.
  5. Social justice protection – as a mediator between the governing body and the community to bridge the gap and advocate better liaisons for the targeted group within key population community.
  6. Catalyst / dynamically significant change / meaningful engagement / self-empowerment – an avenue for learning, developing personal growth, exchanging ideas, sharing experience, finding a job toward independent and sustainable economic community.

“Second Chance Shelter Home @ PKKUM" is another project by PKKUM located at No:9, Jalan Tembaga Taman Titiwangsa Setapak Kuala Lumpur. It was established on 1st May 2018. The residents of Second Chance Shelter Home are from key population community;

Funding is an ongoing struggle for “Second Chance Shelter Home @ PKKUM” program because the intention is mainly to help key population community, which most of the funders are not keen on contributing any form of funds. PKKUM strive to find champion in adopting this wonderful program because of the needs of having a shelter haven for aforementioned communities are utmost important especially Klang Valley area.  The specific program has been designed in a hope that, within 6 months of residency, affected community can be absorbed in the ever-challenging real world.

Since the early days of its operation in 2013 up until today, serving more than 6600 beneficiaries, #tempatrina  opens its door from 9.00am to 6.00pm Mondays to Fridays respectively throughout the year providing decent meals, basic medical supplies, referrals to relevant agencies, shower, laundrette services, resting area etcetera. #tempatrina is part of Community System Strengthening whereby its activities are specially designed for affected key population community thus improving their quality of life.

In the long run, our hope at PKKUM to get the financial support to cater the Drop-in-Centre and shelter home. By strengthening and securing their socio-economic needs, rest assured, we can take care of our severely affected community from the first day they registered to our shelter home and Drop-In-Centre until their Rest-In-Peace. It is our wish and our best interest to ensure that all of our residents will not end up being homeless again. Furthermore, it is our goal in aligned with National Strategic Plan Endings AID of which prevention is better than cure by ensuring that all of our residents be taken care of without prejudice, stigma, and discrimination.
