Having completed the previous HSBC Arctic Challenge (2018) and Himalayas Challenge (2019), I am extremely excited and grateful to be one of the 120 HSBC colleagues to take part in the Petra Dunes Challenge this year. In late Sep23, I will be joining a crew of guides and other HSBC colleagues to walk 100km over 5 days through the ancient city of Petra in Jordan – one of the new Seven Wonders of the World.Petra was established over 2,000 years ago as the capital city of the Nabataean Kingdom and often referred to as the “Rose Red City”. The city is almost entirely carved from sandstone cliffs and canyons – as expert stonemasons back then carved intricate buildings, tunnels, temples, tombs and monuments directly on rock surfaces. (As exemplify by The Theater and Al-Khazneh shown below) During the 5 days, the group of 120+ will be walking through desert rocks and sands, and we will be camping through the archaeological site along the journey. The trip will be self-funded by ourselves, and we will also be fundraising for Jordan River Foundation (As part of the programme requirement), and other charity(s) of our choices. As such, I have taken the liberty to also include Food Angel of Hong Kong as the charity of my choice, which the donation page is here. Following strict food safety protocols, the rescued food items will be prepared as nutritious meals pack via centralized kitchens and distributed to serve the underprivileged communities in Hong Kong.Currently, Food Angel rescues 45 tonnes of edible surplus food each week, producing over 20,000 nutritious meals and helps distribute over 11,000 other meals and food packs daily free of charge for people in need.Food Angel is also one of HSBC partners for charity. We have decided to embark on the physical and mental challenge of the 100 km Maclehose Trail, conquering it despite the blazing sun and humid air. This trip will be a rediscovery of what it means to live in Hong Kong, as we leave the urban environment to uncover its beautiful, hidden landscapes. We hope this trip will inspire others to take a breath of fresh air, providing an haven in the midst of the stressful and fast-paced Hong Kong work life.

COVID-19 is a global crisis but is playing out at local level so we have shaped our firm-wide response to reflect this. Each region has identified local charities and over the coming weeks the firm will match the donations under a COVID-19 version of the matched giving scheme policy. Please refer to the Freshfields wiki for details of the policy.This fundraising match-fund scheme is only open to current employees and partners of Freshfields.Food Angel (www.foodangel.org.hk) - Elderly, Low-Income Families The charity usually collects edible surplus food from the food industry, including supermarkets, wet markets, restaurants, hotels and other food processing companies etc., and prepares nutritious hot and cook-chill meals for distribution to the elderly and members of the low-income families. We organise regular volunteering activities at the Food Angel kitchens. However because of the need for social distancing, the hot meals service has been suspended indefinitely. In its place, Food Angel is currently supplying 7,000 food/care packs on average every week, consisting of canned food, fresh vegetables, rice/noodles, masks and sanitisers.

I ran online fundraising startup to help charities and social enterprises raise fund for their good causes. Experienced some of their real operations, I fully understand the values they bring to the society.Food Angel is one of the beneficiaries, which I highly respect. It rescues edible surplus food from restaurants every night and turns it into nutritious hot meals to serve underprivileged communities the following day. In addition, preparation and distribution of the hot meals are mostly done by enthusiastic volunteers.Despite generous donation from the foundation and the public, every single meal still costs HK$10 to be prepared. Please help to raise 50 meals for the people in need.

So as I am stepping into the wiser and prettier 30s, I will start counting down 30 hours before, by fasting! Since most of you should know I am a big lover for food and I can eat an insane amount, I hope this could just bring a little bit more awareness to the daily food waste.So this is how it goes.. From 12pm onwards on 9th March, I will challenge myself by only drinking water for 30 hours. My daily activities will go on as normal and I will probably minimise my mobility to avoid the feeling of hunger. I will keep a regular update of my state within this time frame till 6pm 10th March. And please try not to tempt me with food. I hope this can bring a little attention to the amount of food we waste every day. And thank you for your birthday gifts/donations in advance!
