Phare Ponleu Selpak
We are a group of runners and walkers from all walks of life wanting to use our "extraordinary" skills to tackle the Angkor Trail run next January in Siem Reap, Cambodia. We might not be fast but are passionate about serving a worthwhile cause, which for this challenge is education for the very young! We believe in a strong foundation for the toddlers to support their future education. Many children in Cambodia cannot afford to attend Kindergarten schooling and with limited resources at home struggle to prepare their children for their first years of public primary education. Phare Ponleu Selpak - a non-profit arts school in Battambang, runs a free community Kindergarten for up to 240 children a year. They use arts integrated into the curriculum to enhance learning and provide the toddlers a unique platform to build their further education. It only costs US$250 to educate one child for an entire year of Kindergarten. We are aiming to $5000 to support 20 children for one year. Help us be the Fabulous team and reach this goal!
Phare Ponleu Selpak
We're fundraising in memory of our late father. He loved Cambodia and went there about 3 times towards the end of his life. He was always generous when he was out there; giving to local charities and speaking to everyone; probably matching the generosity of the Cambodian people. He and I (Juliet) went to the circus together a few months before he died, it was one of the last things we did together so means a lot to me. It's also relevant to Celia too, his other daughter, as it focusses on the arts which is important to her. The circus and arts school "takes a holistic approach to solving social problems through the arts, education, and social work. Phare Ponleu Selpak seeks to provide education, access to the arts, vocational training, and professional pathways to the children and young adults of our community."
