Gay Games 9 in Cleveland 2014 was my first Gay Games and what an amazing experience. The feeling of community and hope is something I'll never forget. The Gay Games not only brought people together from all around the world, but it engaged the local community and showed them a more diverse portrait of the LGBTQ+ community. Gay Games Hong Kong can do the same for Asia. This fundraiser is intended to help the organization of the Gay Games 11 in Hong Kong 2022. All the funds raised will go to the general budget of GGHK LTD and cover vital expenses for the volunteers. Gay Games 11 Hong Kong 2022 is a registered charity organization in Hong Kong, run by a local team of passionate volunteers with experiences in organizing sports, arts & culture and LGBTQ+ events. Without passionate volunteers from the host city, the Gay Games would not happen. Let's help them bring together the international LGBTQ+ community, engage others in the local community, and present a more diverse picture of the LGBTQ+ community to Asia. The Gay Games are very close to my heart and I'm personally making a difference by raising money for this very important event which is held every 4 years, in support of the global LGBTQ+ Community. This will be the 1st time that the Gay Games will be held in Asia and I am especially excited to help support our Hong Kong Host. They have worked incredibly hard and have put together an amazing team of volunteers to host this important sports and cultural event. I am the Co-Officer of Sport for the Federation of Gay Games (FGG), the organization that licenses the Gay Games event. I am also a member of the GGHK2022 Steering Committee, which is responsible for the oversight of the planning, production and delivery of the entire event which will include 36 sports & numerous cultural events and activities. Our hope is to leave a lasting legacy and gain even more support in Asia for the LGBTQ+ community.Anyone can participate in the Gay Games, you do not have to qualify, and you don't need to be on a team, play a sport or perform professionally as part of a band, dancegroup, choir or other.....our Host will be happy to place you on a team (if necessary) and this will give you the opportunity to meet so many new friends from all over the world during your stay in Hong Kong. Many of these friends will become family! We welcome our allies as well! For many of these folks, this will be the 1st time where they can truly be themselves. Many come from countries or environments where they cannot be open about their lives and are often living in dangerous/illegal situations. Being an athlete myself (ultra trail-running) I know how important sports are to build a community of people of together, regardless what they look like, what they do in their life or how much money they earn. Who am I?Hi, my name is Sabrina and I am the Co-Chair and Director of Sports of the 11th edition of the Gay Games, which is to be held in Hong Kong in 2022. Why did I join the Gay Games 11 Hong Kong 2022 team?I still remember the first time I went to an LGBTQ+ event six years ago and how scared I was to introduce myself because I had always been very closeted at work and in life. People welcomed me with warm hearts and hugs and helped me accept who I really am. Ever since I have always wanted to give back to the community, so I organized weekly lesbian sports events, social gatherings and started to be more vocal on social media about LGBTQ+ rights. I believe in the power of sports and the community. Gay Games is the perfect platform to bring people together and I know it's time for me to contribute to an event that's bigger than myself. Even though I have not been to the Gay Games before, I have heard from past participants how inspiring it is and I am in a wechat group of participants from the Greater China region (Mainland China, Hong Kong and Taiwan), where people talk about their memories of the Paris Games almost every day and about how excited they are for the 2022 Games. Then I know I will impact more people's lives than I can imagine. I am already myself inspired every day working with the GGHK team and the FGG, speaking to sports leads from all over the world dedicating their free time to build and grow the LGBT sports scene in their home countries. I know from now to 2022 and beyond, more people from Hong Kong, Mainland China, and across Asia will be united because of what we are doing out of the spirit of sport and love. More about my life in Hong Kong and what excites me about Hong Kong?I am managing a Hong Kong-based food tech company called Spoonful, a virtual cafeteria group that specializes in food production and delivery service. I live with my wife Jacqueline, who is a history tutor and gym instructor. We got married in Guam last year over Easter and we have a three-year-old cat named Kafka.What excites me the most about Hong Kong is its beautiful and diverse offering of people and scenery. You can work in the busiest financial district during the day and at night take a boat home to a remote island and grow your own vegetables. You feel free and safe like nowhere else and everyone you meet is open and well-traveled, and therefore inclusive and kind natured.

All funds raided go to the general budget of GGHK Ltd. and help cover vital expenses the volunteer team incurs to get started.I was competing in the Gay Games 10 in Paris 2018, and I have seen first hand what positive effect of inclusion in diversity a massive international sports event with over 10,000 athletes can make for the LGBTQ+ communities.In 2022, the project gets even bolder: It's the first time the Gay Games, which started in 1982 in my other home town, San Francisco, come to Asia, to my newly chosen second home town Hong Kong -- and closer to many societies which will benefit massively from the visibility of this event.
