My Story

Deltek Systems Outreach Club, led by Head Organizer Sher Natividad, together with the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF) Philippines dedicated a day to a coastal cleanup activity last September 28, 2019 at the Las Piñas - Parañaque Critical Habitat and Ecotourism Area (LPPCHEA). 41 Club members joined the activity to learn more about our environment and how our daily lives affect our shared home.

The Las Pinas – Paranaque Critical Habitat and Ecotourism Area opened in September 1985 and is composed of 2 forested islands, namely Freedom Island and Long Island. The area covers 175 hectares of mud flats and mangrove forest. Organizations and clubs from all across Metro Manila visit the island on a regular basis to learn from and take care of the area’s natural wealth. Bird watching, coastal clean-ups and tree planting events are regularly held here. The members spent their Saturday morning cleaning up the coastal area of Freedom Island, picking up pieces of plastic and used baby diapers under the scorching sun. To their surprise, they realized that the garbage washing in the shores of the island are part of their daily consumption.

The day ended with a total of 17 sacks of plastics, PET bottles, rubber pieces, styrofoam, and glass - an average of 1 sack for every 2 people.

Come stand with us as we work for a future where humans live in harmony with nature.
