My Story

There are over 180,000 refugees registered in UNHCR in Malaysia. These refugees have access to public & private healthcare facilities; however, due to limiting barriers such as cost, transportation, and language, refugees continue to struggle in obtaining proper medical treatment at primary healthcare facilities. Especially due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the public sector healthcare is currently incredibly overcrowded in Malaysia. Affordable healthcare to a vulnerable minority population--like refugees--is crucial, as early treatment could prevent a variety of severe illnesses, which, if left untreated, would cost much more to refugee families in the long-term.

Our campaign is supported by Global Doctors and the National Cancer Society of Malaysia (NCSM) to work towards providing close to free primary healthcare & consultancy services for over 200 refugees that are registered under the Malaysian Social Research Institute (MSRI), and the Zotung Refugee Catholic Learning Center (ZRCLC). Global Doctors has already partnered with the UNHCR in Malaysia and opened a refugee clinic in Mont Kiara that provides free physician consultation, diagnostics, and imaging services (ex. X-rays. CT scans). However, blood tests, a crucial healthcare procedure does require payment.

Thanks to the National Cancer Society of Malaysia, a healthcare package including blood tests and BMI measurement has been provided to these refugees although they are non-Malaysians. All funds generated through this campaign will be used in three primary ways. First, it will go towards purchasing pharmaceutical supplies for the Global Doctor's refugee clinic. Second, it will pay for the refugee healthcare package offered by NCSM which includes blood tests. Lastly, and most importantly, it will cover transportation fees for the refugees (who currently reside primarily in Ampang) to travel to these primary healthcare facilities.
