My Story
Malaysian Social Research Institute (MSRI) is an NGO
that serves refugees, asylum seekers, and marginalized communities in Malaysia.
Our clients that comprise of individuals from Middle East, North Africa, and Central Asia (Palestine,
Syria, Afghanistan, Somalia, Iraq, Sudan etc.) are currently making Malaysia their temporary home
while they await permanent resettlement in either United States, Canada,
Australia or any other resettlement countries. As some of you may or may not be
aware of, Malaysian Law does not permit them to work legally, stunting
their ability to generate income. MSRI provides monetary support in order to
partly finance their medical, livelihood needs, and food support. MSRI is currently facing issues due to our limitation of funding. They are currently unable
to allocate money for medical support. Refugees may face a wide
variety of acute or chronic health issues. Examples include
infectious diseases such as
tuberculosis or intestinal parasites, chronic illnesses such as diabetes or
hypertension, and mental health issues such as
post-traumatic stress disorder or depression.
