We will be running in a Virtual 10km race in Hong Kong on the 31st Oct to raise much needed funds for Angkor Hospital for Children.

My Story

COVID-19 doesn’t stop children getting cancer, it does however stop not-for-profit hospitals effectively fundraise

Vanessa and I have been supporters of Angkor Hospital for Children for a since we competed in the actual race in 2018. This year, due to COVID this event of course will be greatly scaled down. We are proud to be running the in the Virtual 10km race in Hong Kong to support AHC and their free, lifesaving healthcare it provides to children across Cambodia.

When a Colleague and ourselves ran the actual race in 2018 the funds raised would have actually paid the salary for 3 nurses for 2 years!

If you would like to sponsor us and please remember ANY DONATIONS WILL BE MATCHED BY THE COMPANY I WORK FOR!

On a personal note, we’ve not exercised at all this year and we have 1 month to train, this is going to be painful, and has anyone seen 10 km of flat ground in Hong Kong?

How to donate
I have set up a page here that I believe should give tax deduction receipts https://www.simplygiving.com/martin-and-vanessa-s-10km-for-angkor-hospital

Angkor Hospital for Children (AHC) is a non-profit pediatric teaching hospital that provides free, high-quality, and compassionate health care to children in Siem Reap, Cambodia. Founded by Friends Without A Border in 1999, the hospital has provided medical care and health education to over 1.5 million children across Cambodia.

AHC’s mission is to improve healthcare for all of Cambodia's children by creating a sustainable, replicable model of a healthcare institution in cooperation with the Cambodian government.

Angkor Hospital for Children was founded on the belief that every child has the right to a healthy life. Since we first opened our doors in 1999, we have provided more than 1.5 million treatments to Cambodia’s poorest children and their families, have been officially recognized as one of Cambodia’s few paediatric teaching hospitals and have created wide-reaching community outreach programmes.
World-renowned Japanese photographer Kenro Izu first visited Cambodia in 1993 to photograph the magnificent Angkor Temples. Kenro was deeply touched by the resilient children he met during his trip, often missing arms and legs due to landmines and other unexploded ordnances. During his stay in Cambodia, Kenro witnessed a young girl, the same age as his own daughter, die simply because her father could not afford $2 for medical care. It was then that Kenro decided to found Friends Without A Border and give back to the country that inspired his photographic journey.
With the help of the international art community, health care professionals, and more than 6,000 supporters from around the world, Angkor Hospital for Children opened its gates in 1999. Kenro founded Angkor Hospital for Children on the principle of building a hospital for Cambodian children, run by Cambodians. Following Friends’ model of Treatment + Education + Prevention, AHC has created a sustainable, replicable model of a health care institution that provides high-quality medical care to all children, regardless of their ability to pay.
