About Event

SUMMARY

Education has been ignored in Nepalese communities for various reasons such as, cultural traditions, unsuitable schooling environment and financial problems. It is particularly rare for boys and girls that come from poor and marginalised families in rural villages of Nepal, to receive education. Consequently, this project will support both boys and girls most in need of schooling. Educating boys and girls has many advantages such as, improved quality education, health, better family planning and economic growth.

If we want to reach real peace in this world, we should start educating children…Gandhi

 CHALLENGE

 Did you know?

  • Government-run schools in Nepal fail to reach poor children from marginalised communities?
  • Children in remote villages do not have access to even primary education?
  • Some remote villages do not even have a proper school?

Education for children from marginalised communities is still ignored in Nepal, particularly in remote villages amongst poor and marginalised families. The major reasons for this are cultural beliefs, education especially for girls is supposedly unnecessary, the school environment, a lack of awareness, affordability, plus a lack of motivation in parents to promote education. Some effort is being made by the government to address these issue but still many children are not in school and most of them drop out of school by age of twelve.

SOLUTION

School Sector Reform Programs run by the Nepal Government and the World Bank has transformed lives of the marginalised communities in cities like Pokhara but the lives of underprivileged children in rural villages are still at stake.

TECH’S PAST PROGRAM

During the last hitch to Nepal in 2017, we stumbled upon a school that was made out bamboo and palm fronds, occupied by a marginalised community. Students were unfortunately, forced to endure harsh weather conditions, be it sun, rain and even winter in this frivolous structure.

TECH Outreach had pledged to provide the children with basic amenities in life, for starters, a decent school. With the support of donors, we managed to transform this school by rebuilding and furnishing it with benches and boards.

It was indeed a satisfying, heart-warming experience and our efforts were proven fruitful when we learnt that a total of 40 students are now occupying the facility, a 50% increase compared to the first time we met the marginalised children in Janaesbhai School.

This proves that the children from the marginalised communities have the interest and willpower to learn and improve themselves but lack the necessity needs.

OUR TARGET TO RAISE

TECH Outreach is driving a fund-raising program to aid and improve the lives of more marginalised communities with such needs. We aim to collect a total of RM 100,000 which will be spent on school transformation, student apparels, teachers, books, and nutritional food.

Can you assist children like Durga and other poor children like her to Learn English? The cost of an English textbook (shown below) is RM12/£ 2/ USD 3.  Every dollar raised helps many of the needy children in the rural villages of Nepal to finish their schooling.  This will result especially in many educated mothers for tomorrow in the community.  There is enough evidence to suggest that an educated mother will ensure that her children will be educated regardless of gender, will raise healthier babies and contribute to better family planning.
