About Event

Hike for Freedom Thailand (Nov 15-19)

Join us in our anti-trafficking campaign to support women and girls from tribal communities gain access to educational scholarships, skills training and job opportunities to empower them to chart a new path, free from exploitation and systematic abuse.

$150 billion US dollars. That is the estimated revenue of what the human trafficking industry generates annually. $150 billion dollars is the price paid for the millions of men, women and children who are traded like objects to the highest bidder. We think that the best way to truly understand the impact trafficking can have on a victim is through the eyes of a victim themselves. This is why we would like to share with you the story of Ah-Bee - one of betrayal, abuse, and systematic violence but also of hope for a better future for victims of exploitation (Click to watch!)

We need to put an end to this modern day slavery. There should not be a price tag on human life. As privileged students, we believe it is our duty to give voice to those that too often go unheard.

We are Green Light, a student-led service group at NIST International School in Bangkok that is working to create change for victims of human trafficking and exploitation in Thailand. Our mission statement is to "To empower victims of human trafficking and sexual exploitation in securing their universal human rights and advocating for an end to modern-day slavery in the region of Thailand. Visit the Green Light website!

Through a collective effort between Green Light and the New Life Center Foundation, we are in the process of forming a group of young activists to join us on a hike for change, a fundraising and advocacy campaign to raise awareness for the plight faced by victims of the trafficking trade. Join us in raising funds for NLCF's initiatives supporting the community of women and girls in Chiang Mai, the North of Thailand, to ensure the prevention and rehabilitation of those most at risk of exploitation. The hikers will be youth from International schools within Thailand along with the girls from the New Life Center community themselves, a diverse group ranging in cultures and backgrounds who have come together to fight for freedom from modern day slavery.

The two day hike will be on Doi Inthanon, the tallest mountain in Thailand, located just outside of Chiang Mai, the home of the New Life Center residents. Through the challenges we face as we trek to a height of 2000 metres, the Hike for Freedom serves as a symbolic representation of the journey of a trafficking victim, a journey undoubtedly full of obstacles, but with the hope of the summit always in sight.

We hope you will join us on this journey, as a partner supporting the efforts of Green Light and the New Life Center Foundation. We are looking for those who would like to sponsor us on our hike, and reach our fundraising goal - your donation will go towards projects that enable the women and girls within the community to gain access to education from primary to college level, participate in life-skills training programs and find opportunities for work through job-training. NLCF provides a range of skills from educating residents on best practices in paying rent and selecting a major to specialised courses in criminal property law,  fire safety, or training as a nurse’s aide. Through capacity development, residents gain the skill set to be self-sufficient, and pursue their dreams.

Through the privilege we have as authors of our own story, we want to enable others to write their own - and by joining us in our campaign, you can help us get one step closer to empowering those who have struggled far too long without a voice!

Be a sponsor and join us as a partner in this Anti-Trafficking Campaign that will run until the New Year. Our goal is to raise $10,000 dollars towards the New Life Center's community outreach efforts, educational scholarships, and job and life training programs that enable young girls and women to break out of the cycle of systematic abuse. See the Center's impact report for details on their work and results.
