About Appeal

Update: We are increasing our target for our final legal fight at the Federal Court by RM100,000 to cover additional legal disbursement costs and advocacy-related costs.

We are truly grateful to all the donors that helped us achieve our fundraising target of RM100,000. It has made a significant impact on our ability to campaign for gender equality in Malaysia’s citizenship laws. Out of the amount collected, 60% was spent on legal disbursements, 30% on public outreach and 10% on administrative-related costs.

Unfortunately, the Court of Appeal overturned the KL High Court decision on 5 August 2022 when they ruled in favour of the Malaysian Government and decided that Malaysian women should not be granted equal citizenship rights as Malaysian men in the conferment of citizenship on their overseas-born children. Many mothers hoped that the Court of Appeal would side with Malaysian women, but this setback means that the fight for their overseas-born children’s safety and well-being goes on.

Here's our full update on the increase of our fundraiser target: https://bit.ly/FFDonationUpdate

Contribute to support our ongoing fight against the Government to provide Malaysian mothers with equal rights to confer citizenship onto their overseas-born children.

You can donate by bank transfer if you live in Malaysia. You can also donate via credit card or PayPal if you reside outside of Malaysia. A 5% service fee will be collected by SimplyGiving and up to 4% in bank fees may be charged for payment processing.

Being an affected mom I understood the struggles of not getting an automatic citizenship just because we could not go back to malaysia to give birth due to many different reasons. Thankfully I finally gotten my child's citizenship when she is 14mths old but I hope all affected mothers/fathers will get their child citizenship soon.
