On September 28, 2018, past 6 PM, Friday, the island of Sulawesi in Indonesia was hit by a powerful 7.5 earthquake, triggering 2-meter tsunami waves followed by aftershocks.
From initial government reports, more than 1300 perished from the deadly earthquake and waves that destroyed more than 65,000 homes leaving thousands displaced. These figures of destruction could easily go up as search and rescue workers and response teams continue to work round the clock to reach hard-hit communities in Palu, Dongala, Pariti Mougong, Sigi and nearby areas.
Habitat for Humanity has ongoing assessments in the hard-hit areas of Palu and Dongala to check on the extent of damages and possible response. Right now, it is important to help support the urgent needs of the most-affected, providing them with basic essentials, including emergency shelter kits to help them cope from the devastating impact of the disaster.
Please donate now and help our brothers and sisters in Indonesia. Donations will be matched by Bank of America Merrill Lynch, dollar-for-dollar.
Habitat for Humanity International's Asia Pacific office is located in Metro Manila, Philippines. Donations will be transferred to the response efforts project of Habitat for Humanity Indonesia.
