Since February, we have managed to raise almost $115,000 USD towards major repair works to the Cambodia Teacher Training Project accommodation building. We are confident that, thanks to you, our trainee teachers will have a roof over their heads for many years to come.
Our partnerships with a local construction company and in-kind donors - who will complete the urgent repairs and also refurbish electrics, plumbing, painting and other refurbishment work - have enabled us to reduce our fundraising target from $200,000 to $120,000. This means we have only $5,000 to raise and we can start work at the end of August when the trainee teachers break for the academic year. The work will be finished when they return to their studies in early November.

The future of education in Cambodia matters to us. That's why we are fundraising on behalf of the Cambodian Teacher Training Project (CTTP).
The CTTP is a unique training centre in Kandal province, which trains young Cambodians to use innovative teaching methods when they become the public school teachers of tomorrow. We are long term collaborators with this valuable organisation, supporting education development in the Kingdom.
The centre's accommodation building, which houses up to 100 trainee teachers, is crumbling and desperately needs major structural repairs to make it safe and ensure they have a place to call home for the two years of their studies.
We need as much help as we can get to fix the building before it becomes impossible to support the teacher trainees.

BACKGROUND
In the Cambodian provinces, teachers often work in remote locations, with basic facilities and very few resources. The CTTP aims to improve the quality of primary school education in the Kingdom by training young student teachers to use child-friendly interactive strategies with minimal resources in order to enhance their overall effectiveness as educators. The project will continue until 2020 and beyond, training up to 200 local teachers per year who will eat, sleep and learn over two years at the purpose-built facility in Kandal district, Phnom Penh.
The teacher trainees’ residences are decaying rapidly and require urgent major structural repairs to make the buildings safe and prevent them from becoming uninhabitable or condemned. The current residents have no alternative place to live during the course of their studies.
The CTTP’s small operational budget is funded almost exclusively by private donations. There is no external funding available to make these essential repairs.
WHAT WE’RE DOING
This campaign will provide the money for the major structural repairs to the residential building. We are seeking USD 200,000 (UPDATED TO $142K, UPDATED AGAIN TO $120K) to cover all the work required to avoid the building being condemned. If not repaired, this facility will be closed. There is no alternative lodging.
The money will be collected and administered by ISPP, a donor and operations manager for the CTTP. ISPP will also project manage the works when they are commissioned.
WHAT WE’LL DO WITH THE FUNDS
An engineering report was commissioned and provided by a Singaporean company (along with two further assessments and quotes from other contractors) to assess the extent of damage and estimate cost of repairs. Nothing further can be done until the funds are raised.
The building requires repairs and strengthening of the RC beams, slabs and columns to make it structurally sound.
*Update August 2018* - We now have a local project partner who will provide work at cost and in kind support, which has enabled us to do more for less. The project will include refurbishment such as re-wiring, plumbing and painting, in addition to the major structural repairs.
