"Tanagi" is a group of farmers who have the vision to improve the welfare of farmers and promote cooperation among farmers. Tanagi farmer group members are concerned with the fact that the majority of farmers in Indonesia are categorised as poor. Tanagi's vision is to change the mindset and work patterns that are used in farming to be more modern/advanced, improving food production, food security and on-time delivery to wholesalers. The Tanagi farmers are grouped together in mixed ages, enabling the younger farmers to work with more experienced elderly farmers.  

We are working with a group of Tanagi farmers in the village Margahurip Banjaran District of Bandung regency. Currently there are 10 farmers in this group and they are working in collaboration with five others in the area PANGALENGAN, Ciwidey, Banjaran, Lembang, and Tegal. Crops grown are tomatoes, beans, potatoes, carrots, cabbage, beet root, chili gendot, red cabbage, broccoli, cauliflower, etc.

To carry out the Tanagi method of farming, the farmers are seeking a loan of IDR 100 million (~USD7,500). The loan will be repaid within a term of 12 months, on a quarterly basis (in accordance with the planting and harvesting cycle). With the support of this loan, the farmers are able to:

1.   Establish a sustainable cropping system

2.   Provide a regular monthly income stream for farmers

3.   Increase selling price by 20% through direct access to wholesalers
