Since the inception in 1967, MMHA has been an important voice on mental health in Malaysia. Today, a group of mental health professionals and community leaders work with various establishments and communities to pursue social awareness, inclusive legislations and greater accessibility to mental health services for all.The funds raised will be used to support psychological support services for the community. The service includes psychotherapy and counselling. Another area which is in need of funds would be the psychosocial rehab services, catering to individuals who live with serious, chronic mental illness. Lastly, MMHA also organises regular mental health education and caregiver education courses for the public.

In an increasingly demanding world that has yet to acknowledge and understand the importance of mental health, this has led it to become an ongoing prevalent issue that impacts many individuals in society. We, Helping Hearts, Giving Hope, are a team of eleven ambitious students who strive to promote awareness of mental health, as well as dedicate our time to encouraging individuals in prioritizing their mental well-being. We advocate for comfort and happiness as everyone is deserving of care, healing, and fulfilment in their lives. Through our projects, we aim to eradicate harmful stereotypes surrounding mental health and how to reverse the stigma attached to mental health issues by empowering individuals through our mental health talks and care packages to communicate the value of taking care of oneself. Our goal is to raise funds for the Malaysian Mental Health Association (MMHA), an NGO founded in 1967, with the determination to spread mental health awareness, inclusivity and accessibility to healthcare by proactively working with organizations and communities. We believe that the voices of those who are affected by mental health issues should be given the chance to be expressed and hope that our project will open doors to a positive outlook on the topic of mental health.

Anxiety, feeling worthless, and the blues are prevalent medical issues that have a detrimental influence on how you think, and act, resulting to "depression," a condition that has a significant effect on one's life. According to the American Psychiatric Association, depression is believed to affect one out of every 15 adults (6.7%), with a total percentage of 16% of the population in the United States experiencing depression between their late adolescence and mid-life. This discovery clearly demonstrates that depression is a prevalent issue that, tragically, has claimed lives silently if left untreated and unrecognized. We must establish a pathway for not just these people, but also ourselves, to have someone who can empathize with them and alleviate the burden off their shoulders. As a result, we Project WeVolve, aims to assist these people in appreciating their lives so that they can overcome this challenge and motivate others who are struggling from it. Our project's motto "Mens Sana Est Maximum Thesaurum," which translates from Latin to mean "A healthy mind is a healthy body," is one of our approaches for treating depression and enhancing one's mental health. As a result, we will work closely with our beneficiary, Malaysia Mental Health Association (MMHA), because we have the same goal of supporting and healing these victims so they can achieve a positive perspective on their lives. We wish to assist as many individuals as possible, so fostering a better living for a better planet in the future.

Mental health awareness is severely overlooked and under-addressed in Malaysia, despite it being just as essential as physical health. Our minds, just like our bodies, can get sick. And when it does, we should have access to resources to treat it. But sadly, that isn't the case. Mental health, more often than not, is still largely a hush-hush topic in our country, and I'd like to change that. (Banner is taken from Elite Care Houston's website. Sorry, I don't have my own design. >< )

In conjunction with World Mental Health Day, the Bytedance Malaysia - T&S KL team is organizing the Mental Health for All Campaign to create awareness among our employees and at the same time to educate and remind employees about the importance of mental health. As mental health issues becomes more prevalent during this Covid-19 period, we would also like to take this opportunity to support a cause that resonates with us, hopefully, with our contribution, we are able to help more people in need. We have decided to work with MMHA because of how they constantly support the people in need in terms of providing free of charge or subsidized mental health services to our lower income communities using their expertise, which really is a solution to resolve the issue - Mental Health in an Unequal World ( theme of World Mental Health Day 2021). MMHA also constantly advocates for mental health and helps provide trainings and educate the public about issues related to mental health which is a great cause as people often neglects their mental health or finds it difficult to speak up due to various mental health stigmas. The services that MMHA provide includes: Community psychological Support servicesMental Health Support for caregivers & peersEducation & trainingPsychosocial Rehab ProgramResidential FacilityMore information about MMHA can be found on their website: https://mmha.org.my/. Like any other non-profit organizations, funding is one of the key component to enable the organization to keep running and helps them to sustain their great mission in supporting more people who requires health services but does not have the ability to afford these services. Lets do our part to help them out in this journey!Together, we can help them achieve their vision:A nation that values mental wellbeing, where people with mental health conditions are supported and live fulfilling lives, free from stigma and discrimination.
