We are a bunch of adventure-loving folks from Raleigh Singapore, a registered society of volunteers dedicated to paying it forward through adventure. We have either gone overseas on expeditions or organised local projects like our flagship Let's Take A Walk, a long-distance endurance walking event.Suffice to say, we're all experiencing cabin fever due to the COVID-19 pandemic. We are itching to climb a mountain, swim in a lake, or even dig a trench or plant a tree. So when we heard about Care Corner's 40 Days of Care campaign we thought it would be a perfect way for us to "pay it forward" by swimming, running, hiking, cycling or paddling! We hope our small actions can motivate our friends and family to donate towards the cause. We are aiming to raise $4,000 to help Care Corner provide youths with 12-month travel concession passes. We have set ourselves the challenge of completing 5 sports between 2 August and 10 September. Here's our target mileage! Cheer us on and do donate generously!Hike/Run/Cycle a total of: 400kmPaddle: 40kmSwim: 40kmDo follow us on the following platforms to keep up to date with our progress! Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/RaleighSingapore/?hl=en Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/raleighSG/ About the cause by Care Corner: Goal: Provide youths from low-income families with travel concession. In Care Corner's work with school-going youths, they realise many of them face various financial constraints, including insufficient transport money. This impacts their school attendance, participation in community programmes and ability to fulfil daily errands. A monthly transport concession pass will resolve their transport constraints, lighten their families' financial burden and help fulfil their potential.Just by increasing transportation accessibility, we can promote their social mobility towards resources that empower their personal development. Donations received from 2 August 2021 to 10 September 2021 will be eligible for matching fund by Tote Board, subject to approval.

After his parents divorced, Eddie’s split living arrangement had him shuttle between two homes during the week. On one occasion, he turned up late for soccer. Due to insufficient money in his EZ-link card, he made a detour to a relative’s home to borrow some coins to make it for the session. To return home, he approached Care Corner quietly to borrow some coins. I work in Care Corner Singapore as a Social Worker and we are celebrating our 40th anniversary this year. To commemorate this milestone in a meaningful way, we are raising funds for five special causes close to our hearts. Join us in ‘40 Days of Care’ from 2 Aug to 10 Sep 2021. Let’s come together to forge new beginnings, give hope and bring care to our beneficiaries in a tangible manner. About the Cause Goal: Provide youths from low-income families with travel concession In our work with school-going youths, we realise many of them present various financial constraints, including insufficient transport money. This impacts their school attendance, participation in community programmes and ability to fulfil daily errands. A monthly $15 transport subsidy provided for youths under the MOE Financial Assistance Scheme (FAS) helps to lighten some of the financial constraints low-income families face. Concession travel passes are also available at a monthly $43.50 and $54 for primary and secondary school students respectively. To further complement this available resource, we intend to provide youths with a 12-month travel concession pass. Just by increasing transportation accessibility, we can promote their social mobility towards resources that empower their personal development. I will be updating my progress during the 40 days period via my social media platforms. You can follow my progress by following me at: https://www.instagram.com/ronotistan/https://www.facebook.com/RonOtisTan/

Hello just a final update that Care Corner has raised its target of $20k for marginalised youth. With Tote Board matching it, its $40k. So there's no need for further donation. Thank you all for your kindness and my run has contributed ~$1k ($2k after Tote's match). It means I need only run 1km at 5:00 on Sat hehe. But I will make up 3km at 5:00x2 and 5:30 which I didn't match in my 10km run last week. Cheers 😁Update on First of 10km Run: So grateful for the donations that made this run possible. I haven't been running 10km for many months. So my strategy was to to hit the hardest km (4:30) early and keep the easiest km (6:00) as a wild card as long as possible whilst running the rest (5:00-5:30). As it was, I needed to run the wild card by the 6th km and my body crashed at the last 3km, finishing in average ~6:30/km for that 3km stretch when supposed to run 5:30 and 5:00x2. All in, I managed the 10km in about 56mins. All donations go to the cause 😁 Please see the gallery for the Run breakdown.Looking forward to the second 10km with a better strategy to keep pace.* * *Almost every other run is like a mental gymnastic at least for me. It's pretty normal, at my age (50), to have thoughts of just another 10 more minutes in bed or it's a good day to "nuah". So defying these thoughts is a challenge in itself.Although I've finished over 10 marathons (best time under 4h) and a full Ironman triathlon, with age catching up, nowadays I train for 1500m with occasional 5km runs every now and then as part of training for that. Rarely do I go over 5km now.So my targets are going to be a serious challenge for me. I will put in the "extra mile" as this is for a good cause. In return for your donation to youth in need, this is what I will endeavour to complete for each of the four consecutive weeks starting from the first week of August 2021 (i.e. a total of 4 10km runs in 4 weeks, 1 run each week in August 2021):Each Run Distance: Up to 10KMTarget Number of Donors: 40. (Up to 10 for each Run.) One donor for each KMTime Target:$20 donation: 6:00 (i.e. I will run one km in roughly 6 minutes or below within the (up to) 10km run).$30 donation: 5:45.$50 donation: 5:30.$100 donation: 5:00.And $200 or above donation: 4:30.Personally I would prefer the smaller donations for easier run meh LOL, but feel free to challenge me for a good cause haha. If there are more than 40 donors, no worries, I will defy more by running more, maybe by further two weeks or 10+km runs. After each Run, I will update with stats from my Garmin watch. Many thanks for your kindness. Cheers.
