Those who know me, know I like a challenge but 5 days of trekking on remote parts of the Great Wall will be a big test with some of the days lasting up to 8 hours! I also have to get up early every morning and we all know how difficult I find that! Please see the story below and make a donation if you can. Thank you in advance! KalanOn April 29 – May 05 2018, myself and 99 others from HSBC and KPMG in Asia will take on five long gruelling days of trekking across the Great Wall of China. We will be covering hundreds of thousands of steps across some of the most remote parts of the Great Wall of China. The purpose of this trip is to raise a significant amount of money for those less fortunate than ourselves. The trip is self-funded and all donations received will go directly to charity. I have set a target of HKD5,000 for our long-standing HK charity partner Project WeCan, a Business-in-Community initiative aiming to provide disadvantaged secondary school students with additional resources and care to empower them for pursuing higher education and future careers. I’m at it again, responding to the call of the wild in the name of charity. This time, I’ll be joining 50 colleagues from KPMG and 50 former colleagues from HSBC to trek over some of the hardest, most unforgiving sections of the Great Wall of China over five days in May. This may not be as hot as the Sahara or as cold as the Gobi, but I am assured it will be hard, hard, hard. Climbing steps made for horses, negotiating crumbling sections of wall, going up and down more than on Hong Kong’s Maclehose Trail, and dealing with a host of other discomforts.Far more importantly, all this is to help underprivileged children in Hong Kong gain a valuable education so they can have a fighting chance at growing in a harsh, unforgiving capitalist society.Every dollar you donate will help a child with their journey through life, so please, please give generously.

I am given the unique opportunity to do a 5-day hike with 100 people. At the same time I know that this is a privilege that many people do not get. We are combining the trek with a fundraising. All proceeds raised by me and my 49 colleagues in Hong Kong will be donated to our long-standing charity partner Project WeCan, a Business-in-Community initiative aiming to provide disadvantaged secondary school students with additional resources and care to empower them for pursuing higher education and future careers. I think this is a great initiative to support and hope you feel the same!

I will be spending 5 days hiking along the Great Wall. There are lot of stops, not all if good condition, and lots of up and down. Whilst I am sure it's going to be amazing to see and I am really looking forward to it, I fear my knees may not be so much :-) there will be pain.Please support me in raising money for Project WeCan which supports disadvantages students reach their potential and have access to oppertunities which may of us can too easily take for granted.

When I was first asked, I jumped at the chance to raise money for Project WeCan - a local initiative to provide education for underprivileged students - by Hiking the Great Wall of China. An awesome opportunity for an excellent cause. Now some while later, I look down at my office-bod and think this might be harder than I first thought... So your donations would be massively appreciated to keep me motivated and digging in, every bit of them goes to the charity as everything else is self-funded. As most people who know me would say, I am an energetic, athletic, health conscious, gym going, body toned, triathlon running individual that is always up for a new challenge. With this in mind, I would ask you to realise that to get me doing something like this has taken buckets of persuasion and a smidgeon of guilt to sign up. But when you consider the charities which we are fundraising for and the important work they do with the children in Hong Kong and sponsoring education amongst those you cannot afford it - how could I say no.I have been very lucky with supportive parents during my informative years, and if we can help those that will be us in the future - I am behind it."If your plan is for one year - plant rice, if your plan is for 10 years - plant trees, if your plan is for 100 years - educate children" - ConfuciousJoin me and lets help our future succeed! KPMG and HSBC will be joining hands on the Great Wall challenge to raise funds for education. Our funds will be going to Project WeCan which helps band 3 secondary schools in HK scale up. Most students are from underprivileged families and education is the best way to help these students break away from generational poverty

I think that most people know I'm not particularly outdoorsy but I'm doing this as I want to fundraise for charity. I also think it's good / necessary to 'challenge' yourself and it's a 'great (wall) challenge'. Not often that I'm to be found outdoors so if you can spare any change - it would be much appreciated.Photos etc. go up every so often. IG #GWCtraining #GWC
