The Kalsom Movement

I am challenging myself to complete a set of goals that I have planned for my workout for a whole month to fundraise under Kalsom Global Challenge for The Kalsom movement ( Kalsom ). Kalsom is a registered independent student-led charitable organisation based in Malaysia with 23 years of experience in providing a medium for Malaysian university students to use their skills and talents to assist and inspire academically talented secondary school students from disadvantaged backgrounds to pursue tertiary education..

We came up with this idea out of a random Whatsapp call. I was eating chips while my friend was munching chocolates and, it was at that moment we realized where we could take our tastebud on an adventure. We could come up with with 'ingredients' that may seem odd as a pair at first glance; but, with the right harmony of spices and condiments, the flavors will come together to provide a tasteful blend of robust flavors. The message behind this is for us to show everyone out there, that the oddest pair might just be the right pair. On top of that, it shows how different ingredients can come together to create a harmonious and wonderful blend. Just like how, people of different backgrounds and history are able to overcome their differences so long as there is a 'sauce' that holds the 'flavor' together. And that, is how we came about the Mystery Box Masterchef Challenge!

I will also feature my wonderful Malaysian friends at the University of Essex to join me cooking. (yayyy!)The proceed of this fundraiser will be contributed to helping in closing the education inequality gap in Malaysia through The Kalsom Movement, a student-led charity organisation. The Kalsom Movement

I decided to use this platform to give back to children of Malaysia through my hobby. Over last 8 months, I've been training for British Universities and College Sports Championship for Powerlifting. I started as a novice, with no lifting background and my general strength was sub-par. After rigorous training programs provided by my coach and the support I received UCL Barbell Club, I've made serious gains! I've seen my numbers increases tremendously. Powerlifting is an individual sport but it takes the right team to help you achieve the numbers one needs.  Therefore I solely believe that everyone in this world can achieve their goal, given the right conditioning. I'm raising RM 1500 (GBP 270) over the course of 4-weeks until my competition in end of March. As I seek to raise these funds, I also am challenging myself to break my personal best (PB) I've had previously at 92.5 kg for squats, 45 kg for bench press and 100 kg for deadlift. My new goal is to squat 102.5 kg, bench press at 50 kg and deadlift at 110 kg. I hope the outcome of this fundraising is positive at both ends.

The Kalsom Movement

Formerly known as Projek Kalsom, The Kalsom Movement is an independent and voluntary student-led charity movement registered in Malaysia as Kelab Belia Kalsom under Registrar of Youths (PPBM 8086/12) which specialises in tackling education inequality in Malaysia. The movement has been fully endorsed by Malaysia’s Ministry of Education, Ministry of Youth and Sports, Rakan Muda, Education Malaysia in the United Kingdom and Ireland as well as the Malaysia Book of Records for the longest running-student-led motivational camp.Since it was established in 1994, the movement has benefited more than 4000 beneficiaries via its numerous initiatives and programmes. The Kalsom Movement, focuses on developing Malaysia’s future leaders by empowering university students to share their knowledge and skills to help younger economically-disadvantaged Malaysian students achieve their ambitions. In turn, our volunteers also benefit from discovering their own leadership potentials and organisational skills as well as becoming more perceptive of issues surrounding education inequality in Malaysia which will hopefully instil a sense of civic awareness towards their local community and towards the country as whole. We believe in the importance of education in eradicating poverty and propagating upward social mobility and our projects reflect this agenda.

Water,Earth, Air and Fire. Long ago, the four nations lived together in harmony. Then, everything changed when poverty and education inequality attacked. Only the Avatar, Master of all Four Elements, could stop them. But when the world needed him most, he vanished. A hundred years passed, and my tribe and I are on the quest of finding the new Avatar, a powerful bender that can help us to empower underprivileged students in Malaysia. And although his/her bending skills are great, Avatar has a lot to learn before anybody can be saved. But I believe, Avatar can save Malaysia ! Our tribe is formed by benders that come from different parts of the world including Russia, Australia, United States, United Kingdom, France and of course the greatest nation of all, Malaysia. The Kalsom Benders will be doing the challenge till mid April and hopefully by then we will be able to tell who is the Avatar amongst us; The one that can do different nature of challenges and collect the highest amount of donation. All proceeds will go to The Kalsom Movement's educational projects  for underprivileged students over the summer. Greetings from 3 Fast 3 Furious ! Our ambitious and kiasu team consists of Elaine Looi from University of Warwick, Wan Ahmad Badiuzzaman from City University London and Amalina Taib from Lancaster University. We're most probably not fast...just furious amateur runners trying to have a go at a crazy challenge of triple half marathons within March and April !The three of us breathe Kalsom day in and day out. Being part of the The Kalsom Movement committee for the 2nd and 3rd year now, we have encountered and conquered challenges after challenges in bringing the best for children from economically disadvantaged backgrounds who we reach out to every single year to provide more for them in terms of education. We are bringing ourselves to this particular challenge because we are passionate not only in running and becoming better runners, but primarily because of our passion in doing our best to inspire, mentor and motivate students who need positive role models to be fueled to realise their potential and chase their dreams. We intend to be their pacers - guiding every step of their journey and making them look forward to reaching the finishing line with glory. Our first half marathon is the Warwick Half Marathon on Sunday, 5th March! Our second half marathon is the Vitality Hackney Half Marathon on Sunday, 30th April! We will post sweaty selfies, training schedules, running 101 videos and probably even record all 3 half marathon journeys to show you how we enjoy every step of the 13.1 miles / 21km as we achieve runner's high (and lows..)!If you want to run with us, just ruin our trio-ness and come on board! If you want to support us and speed our fundraising process, send us your donation :)If you want to help and be involved with The Kalsom Movement in other ways, just ask away or follow our social media pages below:Facebook: The Kalsom MovementInstagram: @kalsommovementTwitter: @kalsommovementWe appreciate your support :) thanks for sweating with us ! #KalsomOnTheMove

The Kalsom Movement

Hello guys! We are Jalaluddin and Fakhrul Haziq and we are reading Chemical Engineering in UCL. Both of us are in our third year and have one more year to go.Our target for this challenge is most importantly to fundraise for The Kalsom Movement under its fundraising initiative called Kalsom Outdoor Challenge. We are doing this by losing as many kilogrammes as possible in two weeks time (or three depending on how strong we are lol). Both of us used to be slim (and handsome :b) when we first came to the UK to study. However, after three years Fakhrul mastered the art of cooking and baking, causing his housemates to gain weight (maybe just Jalal). Fakhrul was 57kg when he first arrived here. Now, he is freaking 63kg! He dislikes sports so much including jogging. Special for this challenge, he is willing to sacrifice his principle of life to fundraise for Kalsom. For Jalal, unlike Fakhrul, was a gym-goer since his college and his first year. He was 65kg when he was in his first year but gradually increased 10kg in the span of 3 years. Holly cow! Due to his laziness, he lost his momentum to go to the gym and keep on eating Fakhrul's cake every time he bakes. Jalal has a big appetite and to eat clean (especially vegetables) is a big struggle for him. For this challenge, he is willing to give up his unhealthy eating and try to lose at least 5 kg in two weeks (his personal aim). For more details about The Kalsom Movement and what they do, please visit http://www. facebook.com/TheKalsomMovement

The Kalsom Movement

Hello! We are Khadijah and Nadhira. We are final year students at the University of Essex. Khadijah is a law student, Nadhira is an accounting and finance student. The reason we decided to sign up for this challenge is because we thought that this would be a good way to raise money for a good cause, whilst at the same time, challenging ourselves at the things we struggle to do most. For Khadijah a.k.a. Cuddy, she doesn't mind working out, but what she hates is doing cardio. On the other hand, Nadhira a.k.a. Naddy, is really bad at starting her day early by doing productive things (which Khadijah is always frustrated about) but she is alright with doing cardio. Hence we decided to come together as a team and fight off our personal struggles and raise money for The Kalsom Movement. This might not seem challenging to some of you, but these are serious struggles for the two of us.We will be doing this challenge for a month, and for every week, we will do something different. Part of our challenge includes doing activities ranging from jogging, working out, walking etc. in the great outdoors of England with its erratic weather. On days that we aren't doing activities in the outdoors, we will commit to going to the gym in the morning as part of this challenge. The proceeds of this fundraiser will be contributed to helping in closing the education inequality gap in Malaysia through The Kalsom Movement, a student-led charity organisation. For more details about what they do, check them out on Facebook: www. facebook.com/TheKalsomMovementSo stay tuned to 'Cuddy and Naddy On The Go!' and we hope that you will support us in doing this challenge.
