Personal Challenge

Hi all, we are in the process of completing the first Earthship in Malaysia: A self sustainable building that will provide the Temuan community with a community centre and two houses with clean water, renewable energy, passive cooling, sewage treatment and food production. The Earthship is being built by the local community and volunteers under the supervision of Build for Tomorrow. We are very close to completing the project but we need the last stretch of funds. Please support us by donating. Every dollar will go into improving the lives of the Temuan community and building a sustainable future for their kids.

My Story

Malaysia’s First Earthship Project
A house built out of reusable and recycle materials with neutral carbon impact is almost a reality in Malaysia. The one in a kind structure will include 3 buildings, 2 dome-shaped houses (1 and half storeys); and Community Centre (estimated capacity: 50 people)

We intend to train and empower a group of local builders from the Temuan Community to build and replicate affordable, environmentally friendly, and efficient buildings. We educate methods to harness basic necessities such as food, power and water using the Earthship structure and environmentally friendly solutions

The Earthship Concept
The structure was developed as a sustainable alternative to conventional homes by Earthship Biotecture. It has zero carbon footprint as most of the building materials used are recycled products such as tyre’s and discarded glass bottles. It cost almost nothing to operate annually and independent of all municipal utilities

Temuan Community
Our friends in the small town of Kg Dusun, Jelebu, Negeri Sembilan are about 300 people strong. They mainly depend on rubber tapping and forest foraging as their main source of income. The house we are building is for a family of 5 to 8 people will be staying in each of the Earthship houses. After this, Aiman and his family will be using the skills they learnt by building the first Earthship to replicate similar buildings for their entire community. Hence, your dollar is going a long way in making Kg Dusun one of the most sustainable and forward villages in this country. Our hope is that this will spread to other villages in the near future and help elevate rural townships.

Current Progress
We are almost complete! Since October, we built the entire structure using basic recyclable materials along with a lot of earth. Now we only need to install the finishing structures. The manpower required are mostly volunteers. However we pay the 4 or so community members who are on the project on full time. The amount is only minimal and serves to compensate for loss of daily income.

With your support, we can complete in less than 2 months.

Your Donation
We have started this Fundraising campaign in SimplyGiving.com to appeal to our supporters and well-wishers to help us complete this project. We want to provide the Temuan community with adequate resources to see theirs and our dream come true. With your kind donation, this could be a reality.
The Project is short of RM40,000 for completion. We plan to distribute the funds as follows:
  • Equipment & Materials: RM25,000
  • Worker Salaries: RM10,000
  • Administrative Cost: RM5,000 (Including Payments Outstanding for 3 Months)
We would love for all who donated to visit the Earthship when it's completed or get involved in our volunteer program to realize it's completion.

About Build for Tomorrow
We launched in April 2014 as response to an identified need for sustainable building options in Asia. Our mission is to offer consulting, training, designing and building services to support individuals, businesses, and organisations in minimising their environmental impact and operation costs to achieve both financial and environmental sustainability.
