Personal Challenge

"If you don't run with a purpose, you are just chasing the wind." True to my indecisive nature, I couldn't narrow it down to a single cause so I am going with 6: (1) Children’s Cancer Foundation (CCF), (2) The Singapore Disability Sports Council, (3) Runninghour, (4) Singapore National Paralympic Council, (5) SportCares and (6) TOUCH Community Services. Every dollar will go a long way - literally!

My Story

I am running my first ever marathon (OSIM Sundown Marathon 2016) in May! It's been a long journey of many walks, many slow jogs, many 5Ks, many 10Ks, and 5 half marathons to get to this point and I would like to achieve this personal milestone alongside furthering 6 community causes.
Running has taught me to rebel against several things -  the limitations I set on myself; apathy, gluttony, negativity and ennui and to transcend these to become a better version of myself. It would be a dream to be able to benefit the wider community as well.

So help this rebel with a cause and I'll think of you and each of these wonderful causes every step of the 26.2 miles that await past midnight on 29 May 2016!  As my good friend Robert Frost once said, I have promises to keep & miles to go before I sleep.

All donations and funds raised are split equally between the 6 event beneficiaries. These are:

Children’s Cancer Foundation (CCF)

Children’s Cancer Foundation (CCF) is a non-profit organisation with a mission to improve the quality of life of children with cancer and their families through enhancing their emotional, social and medical well-being. Founded in 1992, CCF provides children with cancer and their families the much needed support in their battle against the life threatening illness. In a year, CCF helps more than 2000 children and their families at different stages of the illness.

The Singapore Disability Sports Council

The Singapore Disability Sports Council (SDSC) is the national sports body for the disabled in Singapore. It is a voluntary organisation registered with the Commissioner of Charities.
Sports for the disabled formed the very cornerstone of SDSC’s existence. SDSC’s goal is to promote, through sports, the well-being of the disabled in Singapore, helping them to live full and independent lives.

Runninghour

Runninghour promotes the integration of people with special needs by promoting special needs in mainstream sports such as running and cycling. Our intellectually challenged runners bond with their peers and enlarge their social network.

Singapore National Paralympic Council

SNPC’S vision is to build Singapore into a world-renowned disability sports hub of excellence and inspiration. Our aim is to contribute to the growth and strength of the Paralympic movement in Singapore through our activities and support for affiliates, and to groom more athletes with disabilities, in both spirit and professionalism, to represent Singapore in international Paralympic events. We develop and provide sports programs, expertise and other opportunities for para sports development, such as competition opportunities from beginner to elite levels.

SportCares

Want to make a difference in the community or someone’s life? Join Team SportCares and help activate sport as a force for social good—for underprivileged children, youth-at-risk, needy seniors, people with physical and/or intellectual disabilities and the disadvantaged in our community. SportCares will link needy beneficiaries, passionate volunteers and community-spirited donors through great sport programmes and life-skills workshops.
What’s our end goal? To see people live better lives through sport.

TOUCH Community Services

TOUCH Community Services serves people of all ages, races, religions and backgrounds through its network of 17 services. Each year, its programmes and services meet the needs of some 30,000 clients and 212,000 service users.
TOUCH is committed to helping its clients rise up above their circumstances, and live their lives with dignity and purpose. Your contributions to TOUCH will allow needy children to receive academic coaching and values-driven character development programmes, provide at-risk youths with another shot in life, allow the frail elderly to age-in-place by receiving medical help in their homes, and provide support for persons with intellectual disabilities to integrate into society.
