Why Book Inspired Me to Travel & To Get Better Education

My name is Olivia. I have been traveling to over 40 countries and 5 continents in the world solo through scholarship, workshop, and educational activities.

It might be common for people from the West to travel the world due to their competitive advantage: high purchasing power, no visa awaits, and it is encouraged in society.

But it was NOT in my case.

I grew up in a small town in a highland of Sumatra with a solid dream to travel the world.

As an Indonesian, Money, Visa and Safety are some hindrances I face firsthand to step out of the country.

Common Question I Get When Traveling: How do I fund my travel? Do I come from a rich family or do I have a sugar daddy?

No one could believe that I could travel the world solo by my own effort.
The simple answer is Education!

I got my double master's degree from one of the best universities in Australia under a full scholarship.

I did part of my study in Tokyo, in Melbourne, in Montana, US all under full scholarships. Not only that I also went for a competition, internship, summer research to learn and also explore the world at the same time.

Reading Books Help Me Reach My Dreams

“One must always be careful of books," said Tessa, "and what is inside them, for words have the power to change us.”
― Cassandra Clare, Clockwork Angel

How do I get inspired to travel and to achieve my dreams for a better education? Because I read.

I strongly believe that books are the most powerful thing that could change your mind. The more I read, the more I want to travel the world to see the beauty of nature and people and culture.

Now that I have traveled a lot and get my higher education, I don’t want to keep my story for myself, I want to leave a legacy to other young Indonesian and to inspire them to get as much as opportunities from traveling: job, study, friendship.

In January 2019, I finally published a book ‘Traveling Aja Dulu’ (literally in English ‘Let’s Just Travel’) by Gramedia (Indonesian biggest publisher).
