The mentioned project is planned through the course MPU2312 Civic Consciousness and Volunteerism under the supervision of lecturer. In addition, members of the event include Year 2 students from Tunku Abdul Rahman University College (TAR UC) Johor Branch Campus who are studying Diploma in Computer Science (Data Science) and Diploma in Information Technology (Mobile Application Development).
Persatuan Kebajikan Berkat Berganda (Shuang Fu) Johor Bahru, Johor (PKBB) is a non-profit organization dedicated to provide support to persons with disabilities (PwDs) from the aspects either mentally or physically. Throughout the years of establishment and support to PwDs, they have adhered to their motto - “Give a man a fish you feed him for a day. Teach a man to fish and you feed him for a lifetime”. By practicing the motto, a series of programmes has been conducted to PwDs groups, to lead and guide them to blend well to current society. For example, the programme - “I wish to study”, has offered various kinds of courses to PwDs groups and the study environment is tailor-made to fit each PwD health condition and learning capability.
Asides, PKBB also provides PwDs community on vocational support, especially on job training and provide assistance for job placement. As per current residents at PKBB, there are a total of 18 staff (teachers, cooks, and operational staff) and 32 PwDs with age range from 20 to 60 years old being assisted by PKBB. Monthly operating costs of PKBB are running around RM 32,000. Due to COVID-19 Pandemic, PKBB is facing a financial crisis as the donations are severely decreasing during this period as most of the frequent donors are facing post Covid imposed financial burden. Moreover, PKBB is having a hard time to self-sustain as most of the programmes are suspended due to government constant tightening measures. In short, PKBB is between the hardship of securing the daily necessities.
The fund target of the upcoming fundraising event “Loving Care project” has been set to RM 2500. After deducting 5% of the Simply Giving platform’s service charge, the fund raised throughout the event will fully donate to PKBB to cover part of their monthly necessities, including basic foods and medications expenses.
