My Story

Jom Botak? Go Bald? My friend looks at me with astonishment when I told her I’m shaving my head. I’ve grown my long hair since I joined Taylor’s 8 years ago. And to cut it all? My friend said it’s such a waste to cut my long hair. I said to her, hair will grow back, but this experience will affect me a lifetime. She said I was so brave… when you think about it, what is fear of losing your hair, against the fear and uncertainty faced by someone who’s been told that they have cancer?

Why am I doing what I'm doing? Well, if you must know, it's something very personal for me. All this while, I was really indifferent to the word "cancer". Yes, I know how bad it is and what it can do to a person, but it just seemed so "far" away, something you read about in the papers or happened to so and so… Until recently, it hit home. Someone very close and dear to me... And all of a sudden, cancer became very real to me.

Being the person diagnosed with cancer, I wouldn’t know how it feels. All I can do for her is to give her my support and my love. And the best way is through this campaign. She is “lucky” in that sense that almost all the treatment is covered by insurance. But imagine someone who can’t afford the treatment, what chance do they have in fighting cancer?
