Personal Challenge

As part of World Vision Malaysia's Together for Every Child Campaign, I have taken up the Water for Life Challenge. I will carry a bottle filled with dirty water everywhere I go for a month and raise funds for clean water projects around the world. Please support my effort! Every little bit counts.

My Story

To reflect on my life in the last 2 years, I was busy pondering what to study in college. I never wanted be involved in anything related to children because I personally thought I had no interest in children. Things started to change when I was given the opportunity to serve in World Vision Malaysia.  I can still remember the time I was assigned to research on educational activities for WV’s children clubs in Sabah and to apply the children activities with children. That was literally the shock of my life! I had no experience with children, so when I first met my colleague’s daughter and spent some time with her, I had no idea what to do with her. The only way I thought I could keep her engaged was to watch videos. Then, a colleague suggested to carry out some activities with her based on my research on children’s educational activities and how it helps them to develop their motor and gross skills. I started making my own DIYs learning materials and put it to practice with the child. I find it fun and intriguing making those DIYs materials but what made me most happy was that she was having fun learning through the educational materials I made! From then onwards, I developed the passion to work alongside with children! This change was the most wonderful experience in my life and I have personally witnessed how God transformed my life and instill this passion in me to love and serve children!
During my stint in World Vision, I was also assigned to Tulid Community Development Programme for nine days where I get to have a glimpse into the lives of the poor communities in Sabah. It broke my heart to see children without proper source of clean water and balance intake of nutritious food. The villagers had to travel far out with either their bike or to walk in order to fetch for clean water and yet they are happy with their daily lifestyle but we who are living in the city, often being so comfortable and demand for more whereas they are just looking forward to live through the next day.
Today, many children at the pre-school age still do not have the opportunity to attend school and have the opportunity to learn and play! As someone who is studying Early Childhood Education, I hope to see children’s lives being changed with access to clean water, nutritious food and, of course the opportunity to quality education! Therefore, I’m here to ask a simple favour from you to support me as I take up the Water for Life Challenge by donating to my cause so that the lives of children in Malaysia and the region can be transformed! Please join me in this cause for children! ☺
