SALA PROJECT UPDATE - JULY 2014: Back in June, we launched a fundraising appeal to raise funds for the building and completion of 7 new dog 'salas'. A 'sala' in Thai is a raised sitting area, with lots of shade to protect from the sun and heat of the day, as well as from monsoon rains. We had some bamboo salas already, but they don't last well in the wet season, so a more permanent solution was sought.

Thanks to your generous donations, we raised just over 37,000 THB (about 850 Euros) to pay for the remaining construction materials needed to finish the salas! They have all now been constructed, and are getting the finishing touches at the moment, including signs with the names of all people who contributed 3000 or over to the project. 

We'll put up some finished photos of the salas once the signs and final touches are finished, but for now, here are some photos of the dogs enjoying their new sala shelters. Thank you to everyone who donated and allowed us to build these permanent, sturdy shelters for the dogs in our care!

Lanta Animal Welfare needs YOU! We are currently raising funds for building materials to complete our new rescue dog 'salas'. A 'sala' in Thai is a raised seating area, with lots of shade to protect from the sun and heat of the day, as well as monsoon rain and we have built several of these at the LAW Centre for the dogs to use.

The few that have already been finished are already really popular with the rescued dogs here at Lanta Animal Welfare - the salas keep them cool, dry and offer some good environmental enrichment for them, to keep them happy while they are waiting for their forever homes!

The new concrete salas, like you can see demonstrated by the dogs in the photo, will replace the old bamboo salas, which don't last well in the wet season here in Thailand...

We are still a little short of the building materials needed to finish all of them, which is why we need your help!

We need 30,000 Thai Baht (or $900 US / 670 Euros / £545 GBP) to pay for the remaining building materials and local worker wages, so we can complete all the planned salas.

If you can help us to achieve this goal, then you'll make some amazing rescued dogs very happy!

Also, for donations over 3,000 Thai Baht, we will add your name to the salas, so visitors will know who helped to make the salas a reality!
