COVIDCAREMY 3.0 | COVID-19 RESPONSE FUND |  LEAVING NO ONE BEHIND

As COVID-19 rages on, necessitating the enforcement of the 3rd phase of the Movement Control Order—MCO 3, the vulnerable and marginalized population in Malaysia remain worst affected by the current circumstances and the prolonged socio-economic uncertainties facing our nation. DHRRA Malaysia, therefore, sees the crucial need to launch COVIDCAREMY 3, to meet the basic and urgent needs of the vulnerable and marginalized groups severely affected by the crisis.

Development of Human Resources for Rural Areas (DHRRA) Malaysia is a non-profit organization with almost two decades of community development experience and expertise particularly in promoting empowered and self-reliant communities through grassroots community development initiatives. We aim to ensure sustained improvement of the quality of life of the vulnerable population through various combinations of efforts geared to uplift their socio-economic status.

COVIDCAREMY 3 is the continuation of COVIDCAREMY, an immediate crisis response initiative launched by DHRRA Malaysia in March 2020 through formation of a coalition of 20 local NGOs to reach out and provide support and assistance in the form of food and grocery aid, provision of basic necessities as well as counseling services to the affected communities throughout Malaysia. With immense support and contribution from varied corporate actors and members of the public, DHRRA successfully reached out and supported more than 13325 marginalized families (54247 Individual) through the two initial phases of COVIDCAREMY. Responses from the communities showed that the assistance and support rendered provide a breather for them to navigate through the current challenging socio-economic scenario as they work towards restoring their lives.

In recent times, however, there has been a rapid increase in the requests for assistance received from the communities, particularly since the re-enforcement of the MCO and CMCO. This coincides with the fact that majority of the vulnerable and marginalized segment of our society is ill prepared to cope with the socio-economic impact of COVID-19, and to re-build their life in its aftermath. Many are caving under the immense pressure and mental torment of the prolonged battle against the pandemic, which kept pushing them back from what little progress made in rebuilding their life.

The frontlines, who formed one of the key groups reached and assisted through COVIDCAREMY, are also in grave need of support to get a respite from the continuous challenges and mental anguish faced by them. Without our support, these communities are at risk of being left behind and suffer in silence, which will inevitably hamper our progress as a nation.

Through the COVIDCAREMY 3.0 initiative, DHRRA Malaysia aims to build the resiliency of the affected communities by employing multidimensional interventions ranging from,

1.     Rapid Emergency Response for Support Front liners assisting to curb the pandemic & Partial Financial support to the neediest

2.     General protection through provision of masks and sanitizers.

3.     Social Protection through provision of food, livelihoods, mental health support-counselling and legal assistance.

4.     Capacity Building Training for B40 Entrepreneur.

5.      Access to Education  |  Increase Stateless/Undocumented children access to education & healthcare.

6.     COVID 19 awareness campaign including important of vaccination.

The affected communities will be able to access the support and assistance through our Hotline numbers: 017-7803054 / 03 7887 3087. All assistance are provided upon verification.

The ongoing battle against COVID-19 has brought us together as a nation, and at the same time made visible the fact that we are only as strong as our weakest link. And therefore any advancement and success, whether against the ongoing pandemic or towards the overall development of our country would not be possible by leaving behind the marginalized segment of the society. We, therefore, seek to work hand in hand with you to bring changes to the lives of the marginalized and vulnerable communities, and contribute towards an inclusive, developed and sustainable society and nation.

Your support to direct the much-needed assistance to the affected communities is truly valuable and meaningful in making a difference in their lives.

Each marginalized families will receive an Emergency Need Basket worth RM150, consisting of grocery/food items, masks and sanitizer. The provisions are estimated to last a family of 5 members for two weeks. The content may vary based on the specific needs of the families, e.g. families with babies may request for milk powder and nappies.

Thank you for making a difference in people’s life.
