I’ve been a cheerleader for the past 5
years, and truly love it. Cheerleading helps me express myself and
define who I am as a person. Cheer has taught me not only
determination, but how to balance everything, from sports, school and to
managing high grades. My journey as a cheerleader started at the age of eight when I
joined a competitive cheerleading team in 2018. I was first placed in the
junior team. My term with the junior team was for a short while. After
several competitions, my talent was noticed before I was recognized by my
coaches and upgraded to the senior team. My hard work and determination to do
well paid-off.
2020 – The Pandemic. Life as a cheerleader went on
for me. Being under lockdown never changed my interest and determination to do
well. I carried on with online cheer trainings and joined several national
online competitions. It was a great challenge but I kept the spirit going and
never failed to live my passion. Back in 2021, physical trainings were allowed and I went back
on track and this time to greater heights. I was chosen to be the Team Captain for my cheerleading club (season 2022/2023). This greatest
reward came with a lot of tears, pain, failures, pushing myself to limits,
physical strength challenges and once again the determination to bring the team
up as national champions.
Since 2018, I have competed in many competitions and
never failed to nail a spot in the top three in every competition. In 2019, my
team participated in the
Asia Cheer Invitational Championship held in
Singapore. We brought home the champion and the runner-up title with much pride
and joy. This year, In September 2022 we competed in the
Asian
International Cheer Challenge held in Bangkok, Thailand. We proved to the
world that the pandemic was not an excuse but it was a journey that made our
come back stronger. We claimed the champion title once again at the Asian level. Recently, the Cheerleading Association of Malaysia conducted auditions
in search for the
National Cheerleading Team. I underwent the strenuous
journey and finally
made it to the team! The team have qualified into
the
World Cheerleading Championship 2023 being held in Orlando, USA. Words
can’t express my gratefulness to God, my parents for their endless sacrifices
and the biggest credit to my most talented and dedicated cheer coaches since
day one of my journey. I’m looking forward to creating history in my life with
the skills and knowledge in this sports that I carry to the world stage.
