WWF is one of the world’s largest and most respected independent
conservation organisations. Its mission is to stop the degradation of the
earth’s natural environment and to build a future in which humans live in
harmony with nature.
As one of WWF’s international hubs, the WWF-Singapore office is part of a global network spanning over 100 countries. It helps protect Singapore’s essential needs through the actions of individuals, businesses and governments in the region. To meet key conservation goals, WWF-Singapore addresses issues such as deforestation, haze pollution, food security, sustainable consumption and illegal wildlife trade. wwf.sg
WATERWAYS WATCH SOCIETY, SINGAPORE www.wws.org.sg
Waterways Watch Society (WWS) is a non-governmental and non-profit environmental organisation, committed to foster appreciation and promote conservation of our environment, especially the waterways in Singapore. Established since 1998 with only 27 members, WWS has grown to about 500 volunteers today, with ages ranging between 5 to 80 years old and with people from all walks of life.
Mission: To bring people together to love our waters and to inspire stewardship for our environment.
One of our main areas of focus is public outreach and education. Through our environmental education programmes, we hope to promote the practice of good social and environmental habits such as the 3Rs (reduce, reuse, recycle), disposing of waste properly and not littering. We believe that constant engagement with the public by bringing them closer to appreciate the environment is a sustainable long-term strategy, as it promotes positive paradigm shifts and improvements in social graces and collective ownership of the environment. This win-win approach benefits the environment as it will continue to be cared for, valued and appreciated by the community. All of us benefit from having a beautiful and clean environment which can be enjoyed by both current and future generations. This will not be an overnight process; time and consistent effort are required to reap rewards.
