After 3 years living on Bali I met my Javanese husband Herwin Adi
Rosseno and moved to Jogjakarta. We started a small villa resort in 2015
in a very quiet, peaceful (kampung) village in Sewon, South Jogjakarta.
Next to my job as a hostess at villa Rosseno, I started to help the
cats. Many many cats are walking around with no families who take care
of them. None of the cats were castrated or vaccinated against scabies.
So everywhere we brought food and water and our vet came once in a week
to vaccinate as many cats as we could. Around 50 cats we castrated and
vaccinated. Some cats stayed with us, refusing to leave our resort and
took us as their staff. Also many cats died because they were already
too sick but at least they died not alone and with hunger but with our
love. Also we brought the most poorest people rice and vegetables. So
far so good.
Unfortunately 4 months ago the
virus outbreak reached also this city. The people in Jogjakarta lives
mainly from the tourist industry. Every family has somebody working in
the catering industry. If it is a small restaurant, or laundry service,
or a batik shop or whatever. There is nothing to sell or to do here
anymore, same situation like many other countries. There is no financial
safety net for the people in our kampung. We try to help as much as we
can but at this moment too many people are starving or getting sick.
There is no virus here in Jogjakarta but they are getting sick because
of malnutrition. A visit to a doctor they can not afford. Vitamins they
can not afford. If they have a pet, they can not bring food to them
because there is nothing to give. The people who had a job are fired
because of the virus so they can not support there families.
After
I heard a terrible story, what is happening on other islands, about
people who are so desperate to find food, I couldn't sleep anymore. I
will not shock you too much with this stories in detail (its about dogs)
but I really don't want that will happen here as well.
That's
why we reach out to you. Maybe you can help us with a (small) donation
to bring food to the people in this village and the cats. Its too much
to handle for us alone because so many people are jobless.
I will explain our plans. I expect this crisis will last a couple of months more, maybe until the end of the year.
For the people I want to bring every week a basket with the most important local food.
1
basket consist of: 2 x tempe, half kg sugar, 5 x indomie, tea, tomato, 3
kg rice, a can of sardine, 2 kg eggs, 1 ltr oil, 2 x soap, 3 kg gas. 1
small toothpaste, 1 small shampoo. Depending the gifts we receive, we hope to bring this basket twice a week or add more vegetables, fruit, unions, garlic and sambal.
The price of this
basket is 200.000 rupiah (around 12 euro). We have around 20 families
extra (9 families I handle myself) who have zero income now.
That's 240 euro per week. Around 5000 euro until the end of the year.
For
the cats: Scabies vaccination + vitamins is 185.000 rupiah (11 euro)
male castration 250.000 rupiah (15,25 euro) and female 350.000 (21,50)
Food
for the cats at the market: There are a lot of cats at the market
because the change they find food there is bigger. Only not now anymore.
Nobody can bring some food at this moment. We will go there ones a day
with cat food. 2 kg crackers is 30.000 rupiah/7 days a week 210.000
rupiah (12,80)
The cats in our kampung I bring myself everyday food and water.
I
hope you can help us with these families and the cats. Of course you
can tell us where we must bring your donation: to people or cats.
Every
euro will help them. Even small donations can bring many donations to a
basket food or a castration. I will inform you with pictures every week
and tell you how everything is going.
If you have any questions don't hesitate to contact me.
If you can not donate please share this message, you will help us also.
Thanks in advance
