Pads & Paws KL is a community-run charity group that rescues, rehabilitates and re-homes stray, abandoned or lost-and-never-found dogs and cats, as well as campaigning against the maltreatment and exploitation of animals in KL and surrounding areas. We also advocate for spay and neuter as a priority to reducing the number of stray dogs and cats in KL, Selangor and beyond.
Some of our rescue stories from 2021:
- GRANDPA LEO was found struggling to walk across a road, his skin thick and raw with mange and his back right leg evidently in great pain. Many were walking past this horrible-looking cat, but 1 kind lady and friend of Pads & Paws stopped to help him. We took Leo to the vet his leg, which was severely infection, was operated. Leo began treatment for his mange and later had several teeth extracted and a full dental cleaning. Loving Leo was later adopted into an even more loving family where he can be comfortable for his remaining years.
- PATCH was found wandering in a car park, very skinny, very hungry and very lonely. A resident took her in and then contacted us for support. We took Patch to the vet and were given medicine for a very bad flu and advised to aid her in gaining a considerable amount of weight before undergoing spay surgery. Slowly, Patch began to gain some weight but her flu was persistent. Then suddenly, one night, Patch gave birth! Under her skinny frame, neither us nor the vet team had noticed her pregnancy. Due to Patch's ill health, the babies were born with fever coat and twisted legs. Weeks of physiotherapy helped the kittens make a full recovery and Patch finally shook off her flu!
- COPPER was born in an abandoned construction area where he was living with his parents under some metal sheeting, which provided poor shelter against the tropical heat and the raging afternoon thunderstorms. Terrified and hungry, it was a challenging rescue but we managed to get him safely to the vets and then to a wonderful foster home. Copper has taken months to trust and come out of his shell, but has transformed into an incredibly loving and well-trained doggo who is still looking for his forever home. His parents were neutered.
- SOOTY, ASH & CINDER were rescued after one of our teammates delivered a cat to his forever home. Walking out of the residential area, she heard the distinct crying of baby kittens and found 3 tiny babies trapped in a rat cage by the guardhouse. The guards informed us that they had been dumped there. The guards were trying to give them food but, despite their kindness, did not know how to care for such small kittens. Our teammate scooped them into her carrier (now empty since delivering the other cat!) and we quickly got them to the vet, then home for a warm bottle of milk. They quickly weaned onto solid food and have since been adopted as a trio!
