About two years ago I was diagnosed with severe depression and anxiety disorder. Thankfully though, with the help from the caring doctors, psychiatrists and allied health personnel administrating treatment, I am finally ready to get back on my feet.

Undergoing treatment was tough throughout the past two years. Facing social stigma regarding my condition was even tougher. In the two years when I was receiving treatment, I have met countless other patients, average folks like you and me who have unfortunately succumbed to mental health conditions and inner demons. During the period of treatment, I had to resign from my job to receive treatment. My savings have more or less been wiped clean, along with those of my family members.

Having experienced the difficult times that I had to go through, I saw first hand the large number of people in need of professional care and treatment. Public hospitals however struggle to cope due to the lack of qualified personnel available. Now that I am ready to get up on my feet again, I am enrolling to study for a Master's Degree in Applied Psychology (starting Jan 2020) so that I can help those in need - the very same people like myself who had to go through the tough ordeal.

My only obstacle now, as you have guessed, is the ability to fund for the university fees. My savings, and my family's savings had been used up to pay for my medical treatment. None of the banks are wanting to take a shot on me with student loans due to the fact that I have been unemployed for the past 2 years. My search for full-time employment has also been unsuccessful thus far, with my guess being my medical history being a big issue with prospective employers.

Plans for usage of funds:
$53246.90 - all donations will be used towards paying the full course fee that I intend to enroll in.
All expenses not related to the course of study, i.e. living expenses will be funded by myself via income from part-time work.


Also, while setting up this crowdfunding, I tried thinking whether I would help someone with the above situation, probably like what some of you reading might think about. Will I be able to cope with the studies given my medical past? Won't your donations be wasted if I am not able to complete the course? Well, such concerns will be understandable without a doubt, but I feel fairly confident that the worst is behind me, and the therapists feel the same too. Medically speaking, the team of psychiatrists have discharged me fully, meaning they have no concerns of a relapse (medications are not required any further as well). As for academically, I feel fairly confident in my abilities to do well, and that I am passionately determined to do well.
