Competing in the Reebok CrossFit Games is the ultimate goal of every crossfitter, so when I knew that I am the very first athlete representing my home country Malaysia to compete in the Games this year, I was like ‘walao’ (Malaysian slang for ‘wow’).
I am Edmund Tan, born and raised in Kuala Lumpur, and am currently residing in Hong Kong. I started CrossFit in the hope of regaining my strength after getting seriously injured during a rock climbing event in 2007 which put me out of all physical activities for over a year. I trained diligently and consistently every day, and after training for less than a year, I became a certified CrossFit coach. Since then, coaching has been my consuming passion as I often find pleasure in sharing my techniques and training tips with others.
I have been hooked on CrossFit ever since I took it up. We crossfitters are always doing seemingly impossible things, and in order to achieve those things, we brush off our fear and make things happen. CrossFit has made me a stronger person both physically and mentally.
In the first CrossFit Games Open in 2011, I fought hard and got qualified for competing in the CrossFit Games Asia Regional Individual. In 2012, I was once again qualified for competing in the same category in the same competition. In 2013, I was invited to be the Head Coach of CrossFit 852 in Hong Kong, and in 2014 and 2015, I competed as part of Team CrossFit 852 in the CrossFit Games Pacific Regional.
These experiences were an emotional roller coaster ride filled with ups and downs, but one thing that has always been steady and constant is your unswerving faith in me. I am always blessed with your kind words, genuine wishes and loud cheers, and your unwavering support gives me the strength to face any challenges ahead.
If CrossFit is also bringing strength to your life, I would like to invite you to be part of my journey to this year’s Reebok CrossFit Games by funding my trip to Madison, Wisconsin, where the Games will be held in August. Your support will not only make my journey to the Games more memorable but also make my CrossFit journey even more epic.
A rough estimation of my travel expenses:
Transportation (including airfare) HK$23,000
Accommodation HK$12,000
Food HK$3,000
Other expenses HK$2,000
Thank you for your love and support.
Have a blast!!! The fittest man in Malaysia :)
