Richard Gardener, a much-loved member of the Mother’s Choice family, lost his battle with cancer on March 23rd, 2019. Richard was a truly special man, and the backbone of Mother’s Choice for more than 25 years.
Richard’s journey with Mother’s Choice first began in 1994 when he made the courageous move to leave behind the corporate sector. He moved with his family into the small volunteer quarters for three months, which turned into eight years of full time voluntary service. Richard returned to Mother's Choice in 2012 to serve as Director of Operations and more recently as Board Secretary and Head of Volunteer Engagement, bringing him full circle to his beginnings at Mother’s Choice.
Richard was a truly special man, and never sought fame or recognition and “walked the talk” as the first to open his home as a Project Bridge foster parent. His faithful commitment and service to the most vulnerable in Hong Kong will continue to impact life stories for generations to come.
For most of the years that he worked at Mother's Choice, Richard served as a full time volunteer. In gratitude for his faithful service, this fund was created to provide financial support his widow Sheila, and their youngest son, James, who was also adopted from Mother's Choice.
In honor of a wonderful person
