Home of Peace Kuala Lumpur

Thank you Puteri - for introducing this loving home to me. Like many others, the visit to this place got put off and put off, cos we are always 'too busy with life' and charity is probably the last thing we think about. Last Saturday I finally managed to tag along and visited this place Puteri have been telling me about call Home of Peace, located at 100, Jalan Nyaman 1, Taman Bukit Indah. This humble little place is the permanent home for more than 20 underpriviledged children, more specifically girls as young as pre-school age all the way up to teens. Being there for the first time did not feel like so, as the girls are all very warm and welcoming. They were not shy to introduce themselve, or to engage with us on anything we're willing to share. It's a good vibe. Learning the fact that they are home schooled explains a lot, I really like how they behave, the way they carry themselves, so well mannered and very importantly well spoken too.Feeling the positivity each of these girls brought to me, despite what happened to them in the past really inspired me. Turning 30 this year, I look back and realise how fortunate I have been with so many things I have taken for granted, that these girls do not have. But that did not stop them from having happiness in their life, from having hope for the future. This wouldn't have been possible if not for this home to have provided them with a safe shelter and more importantly, nurturing environment for them to grow both physically and mentally in a healthy way. Thanks to Alia who have given me this idea of doing fundraising instead of gift receiving for her birthday last year - this year, so happened this cause came to me right before I celebrate my 30th birthday. To those of you with or without the intention of buying me a gift, I'd like to invite all of you to celebrate my birthday this year in donating to this great cause. On behalf of those girls, I thank you in advance as no matter how big or small your donation is, I am sure it'll make a difference to their everyday life.

Home of Peace Kuala Lumpur

Project Description: Local resident, Justine, established the Home of Peace in 1992 to provide shelter and education for girls from squatter families in and around Malaysia's capital city, Kuala Lumpur. The main objectives of the home are to tend to the physical and emotional needs of abused, neglected and orphaned children, to ensure these children receive formal education and to equip them to help their families who are still living in squatter areas. The Home has been a haven of safety, health and care for seventeen girls over the past 19 years, with the eldest now working and living independently. A larger home was purchased in 2007 as the original small home had been outgrown. This is testament to the dedication of Justine and her team, given she started the home with just two girls in her care.A normal week day starts at 5.00am - the girls get dressed, have breakfast, pack bags and lunch before going to school. The three youngest stay with Justine for home preschool. Each Sunday the children enjoy Sunday school followed by a quiet day home to allow parents to visit, although sadly this is rarely taken up given the difficult family circumstances many of the children come from.Project Type: Education                       Nutrition                       Healthcare                       AccommodationBeneficiaries: Girls
