I am running the Reading Half Marathon on the 18th of March.I run for floofs and woofs. Lanta Animal Welfare are a brilliant and much needed animal shelter on the Thai island of Koh Lanta. Having visited there, and seeing first-hand the impact they're having on the island(surrounding islands too), I want to raise them some money to help them treat animals. I am in a bit of a better shape than I was, but this is going to be a tough mental and physical challenge for me. Please check them out, especially if you've been to an area with too many stray and mangy animals. http://www.lantaanimalwelfare.com/Woof! In January 2015, I visited the most beautiful island in Thailand, Koh Lanta. During my stay, I stumbled upon Lanta Animal Welfare.  I completed fell in love with the place. The work they carry out to raise awareness of the hardship of homeless, sick and injured animals, and to sterilise and vaccinate to help keep the population low and healthy! Along with promoting the benefit of adopting animals in need. Every year they sterilise thousands of cats and dogs, which in turn helps to stop hundreds of thousands of unwanted kittens and puppies. Their mission is to end the homeless animal crisis. So, I decided in 2017, I want to tick something off my “Bucket List” and I really couldn’t think of a better charity to help along the way! On the 5th of March I, will taking part in my first ever half marathon!! It really hasn’t been an easy journey, several injury’s and training throughout the winter has been tough! When I am running those 13.1 miles, I really am going to need some support! So please, sponsor me, the money really does make such a difference.£7 will feed a cat/dog for a week£9 will provide tick/flea treatment for 2 small dogs £12 will sterilise 1 cat/dog£22 will provide food and health care for 1 cat/dog for 3 weeks£35 will feed all the dogs at the centre for one day THANK YOU!! xXx

In 2014/2015 I volunteered at Lanta Animal Welfare on the beautiful island of Koh Lanta, Thailand.  After 3 months volunteering I was then lucky enough to help there for a further 9 months, something which had a massive impact on me and has resulted in a complete change of career and 2 little black cats coming from LAW to live with me!  Lanta Animal Welfare is a non profit charity whos aim is to raise awareness of the hardship of homeless, sick, and injured animals and to sterilise and vaccinate to help keep the population low and healthy.    Every year they sterilise thousands of cats and dogs, which in turn helps to stop hundreds of thousands of unwanted kittens and puppies.  I have decided to take part in a walk from London to Brighton which is 100km/62miles which I hope to complete in one go which will take approximately 28hours!  I start walking early on the 27th May and will finish sometime around midday on the 28th May (along with my friend Lysha who is raising money for Amnesty International). I really appreciate any money you can donate;  £7 will feed a cat/dog for a week, £9 will provide tick/flea treatment for 2 small dogs, £12 will sterilise 1 cat/dog, £22 will provide food and health care for 1 cat/dog for 3 weeks, £35 will feed all the dogs at the centre for one day.  Please support me if you can, every penny counts!

Hey Everyone! As you may know I've been volunteering at an Animal Welfare Centre in Koh Lanta, Thailand for just over a month and plan to stick around because this place does wonderful things for beautiful animals. The animals here are rehomed in Thailand, Europe and America so if you're interested in voluteering or adopting check out the websitehttp://www.lantaanimalwelfare.com/how-you-can-help/.On Sunday I'll be doing a  5K run along Long Beach in the blistering heat to try and raise some funds! Do something festive and show some goodwill. 300 Bhat (£6) will feed a cat or dog for one week, 500 Bhat (£10) will cover vaccinations or sterilisation for an animal and 1000 Bhat (£20) provides special diet food for vulnerable animals for 14 days. Thanks everyone and Merry Christmas from Thailand!

After volunteering at this place twice it really is a sanctuary for cats and dogs (and the odd sheep and monkey!). They work so hard to keep this place running and deliver the best vet care they can. This place relies on donations as they have no government funding. Koh Lanta has too many stray cats and dogs which need medical care or to be neutered to try and prevent more puppies and kittens being born just to not make it on the streets. Honestly i can not be more proud to have worked here and see all the hard work they do.Now I am not a runner but i will be running the Tough Mudder event on the 27th September. I'm training as best i can to try and help me get through this 18k obstacle course run and having some donations behind me will really make me want to work harder! So thank you for whatever you can spare to give to this lifesaving place :) // Check out some photos below to see some of the many animals you would be helping.

Hi, thank you for visiting my personal fundraising page. I'm running in this year's LDN is marathon for Lanta Animal Welfare (LAW). LAW is an animal sanctuary charity located in Koh Lanta, South West Thailand. The charity offers housing and medical treatment for all stray and injured cats & dogs that would otherwise not survive. When I visited LAW, I was really touched by the fantastic work that the charity does and the positive impact it's having on the local island community. Some of the animals have suffered horrendous injuries and treatment, but have been given a second chance at life to be re-homed in a loving environment. However, as with all charities more funding is needed to support this wonderful cause. Funding goes towards more medical equipment, more space and enable the mobile clinic to reach further parts of the country to help. Any funding from you guys makes a massive difference and is hugely appreciated. Cheers, Joe

Lanta Animal Welfare

Two weeks ago, a kitten died in my arms. It began a happy day. Charlie's birthday. He had just arrived in Thailand and I knew I'd see him in less than a week. I was feeling happy with where I am, where I've been, what I'm doing, where I'm going. All was good in GH's world. She was in isolation at Lanta Animal Welfare ("LAW"), where I was volunteering, sick with Feline Panleukopenia Virus ("FPV") and not expected to last the night. When I checked on her in the morning, I thought she was dead, her eyes wide open, her gums pulled back across her teeth. Poor mite, I thought and got on with feeding and cleaning the living. The harsh reality of life at a busy animal rescue centre, I had to deal with her body; the last humane thing you can do for a dead animal; give them dignity in death. She had been on a drip and as I gently unwrapped the plaster to remove the needle from her tiny paw, it moved. Her unblinking eyes focused on me and I realised there was life. Her little heart fluttered in her chest. I shouted for the vet and wrapped the kittens cold body in a towel, cuddling her closely to warm her. She had urinated and defecated on herself. I cradled her little head in my hand and spoke to her quietly of the life she was going to lead when she got better; the mice she would chase, the garden she would roam, the warm fire she would stretch out in front of. In the 10 minutes it took for the vet to arrive, she died in my arms. One final spasm and she relaxed and was gone, her eyes still locked onto mine. She lived in pain but she died in love and with someone who cried tears for her. Two weeks later, it still hits me like a punch in the gut, whenever I think about her. She didn't even have a name. FPV is highly contagious and hits hardest at natures most vulnerable; kittens, sick and pregnant cats. By the time LAW gets to them, it's often too late to save them. FPV is a resilient virus and can survive for years in a contaminated environment, so it puts many other healthy animals at risk. Infected cats at LAW are kept in isolation, so it's time, cost and labour intensive, yet it is totally preventable. The staff here want to run an island wide vaccination programme, to bring this horrible disease under control. They aim to go out into the community and vaccinate every cat they can find, domestic and stray, free of charge, but to do this they of course need cash; to start, £1,000 (THB52,500) which will pay for 150 vaccines and get them underway in one location, with an objective of raising £10,000 (THB525,000) to enable them to vaccinate 1,500 cats in 10 different island wide locations. LAW is a registered charity and works completely on a donation basis, mainly from tourists who visit, and support from its founder, Junie Kovacs, who donates the profits of her restaurant and cookery school, Time for Lime. As some of you know, I have a big birthday coming up. Fifty fantastic years, good health, a loving family, wonderful friends, many blessings. I am lucky enough to have received a lot of emails from people asking what I'd like for my birthday and whilst I appreciate that not everyone reading this even knows me and there are many other worthy causes that people already generously support, if you are one of those that were planning on sending me a card or buying me a gift, what I'd really like instead is for you to make a donation, however small, towards this worthwhile project, which will really make a difference to so many animals' lives. I'm so lucky that I need and want for nothing (apart from a Chanel handbag, world peace and an end to animal suffering). Just £6.40 pays for 1 vaccine; 1 less kitten dying in pain and misery. In the last 10 years, the team at LAW have completely eliminated rabies from the island with their vaccination programme, as well as bringing the stray dog population on the island completely under control. To think that in another 10 years time, as I prepare to celebrate my next landmark birthday, together we could have contributed to a similar legacy with FPV, that would just be the most amazing birthday present ever. You're the best! Gill xx

Lanta Animal Welfare

Hi All, Earlier on this year, whilst on my travels around South-East Asia, I volunteered at Lanta Animal Welfare for 3 months. These guys do a brilliant job of looking after the animals on the Island of Koh Lanta and other surrounding islands. The Idea is simple! To sterilise and care for the animals and relieve the suffering and pain that some may have already suffered! Some of these animals have been treated very badly before being taken into LAW, where they are treated for their injuries and sterilised and that's why we need your help! Lanta Animal Welfare receives no funds for the amazing work they do, so anything you are able to give will go a long way! Whether that is donating on my page now, volunteering there in the future or adopting one of the many dogs and cats, which are there now looking for their forever home! I loved this place and will be going back again one day in the future, but until then help me raise as much as we can for my run in the Bristol Half Marathon on the 21st September, where I hope to cross the finish line in under 2 hours. Any donation big or small will be greatly appreciated! Thanks for your time!

Hi all, You might know that I went to do a month of voluntary work for a great charity called Lanta Animal Welfare on Koh Lanta. My amazing time there has ended, however I still would like to help them and the cats, dogs living there. Now they are raising funds for building materials to complete their new rescue dog 'salas'. A 'sala' in Thai is a raised seating area, with lots of shade to protect from the sun and heat of the day, the monsoon rain as well as to help keep the doggies happy while they are waiting for their forever homes! As I am not there anymore, I had to find out another way to help, aaaand (drumroll) here it is: I will not complain about anything until 6th July. You heard well. Yes, I am serious. I will look only at the bright side of life - for at least 2,5 weeks. And you, you know how bloody hard this will be for me...! :) Sooo. If you have some extra pennies in your purse and feel that those beauties on Koh Lanta and my incredible challenge is worth some support from you, please do not hesitate. It doesn't matter if it is 10p or £10, every little helps. Me, the dogs, the volunteers over there and KARMA will love you for all the pennies you give. THANK YOU and don't forget: ALWAYS LOOK AT THE BRIGHT SIDE OF LIFE!
