We are grade 4 students at Seven Skies International School in Malaysia. We are working to raise funds for the Rohingya refugee children who live in Malaysia. These children are impoverished and many are orphans. Most of them are from Myanmar, and they are escaping from child exploitation. Our class had the privilege to visit the Rohingya refugee children at their school, Maahad Durul Hijrah, which consists of a public mosque, an outdoor area where they study, and two small rooms which each house 16 children who share mattresses to sleep on. There are about 40 children who attend the school, and the school is gaining about 24 new students every year. The facilities there are too small for the children and there are only three toilets for about 60 people total to use each day. The school would like to be able to relocate to a larger facility, but lacks the funding to do so.Each child only has two (2) sets of clothing, neither of which are appropriate for sports activities or exercise, and the children get very little in terms of getting to do sports activities or exercise, due to lack of equipment and facilities. The food the children are supplied with is often not as nutritious as the children need, and not plentiful enough for the children to have good energy levels for their learning and exercise. The cost for one month's worth of food to feed all the children at the school is 10,000 RM. Therefore, we are aiming to raise money to fund the following items for the Rohingya children at Maahad Durul Hijrah:- Cooking equipment and/or new, bigger kitchen for the school- Food supplies that are more plentiful and nutritious- Sports items, such as football shoes (sneakers), badminton rackets, football goal posts, table tennis rackets and tables- New portable toilets- Relocation funding- New sets of clothes to provide children with appropriate attire for exercise and movement- Air conditioning units, as children only have 1 ceiling fan in each bedroom, and it gets quite hot with so many children sleeping in one roomIf you have any recommendations as well for how we can use your donations to directly impact these children's lives, we would be happy to hear from you.
