At Peak School we are always on the journey to see children thriving and growing. Our connection to children is not limited to within our school, it extends to wherever their lives go and whatever they do next. This is why it is important to us to ensure that mental health for children who grow into teenagers is sufficiently supported in Hong Kong. Our youth are clearly in need and worsening statistics in our community concern us. We been moved to take action with the wider ESF family in support of the Weez Walk and Kely services. Some of Peak School Staff are walking to raise awareness of needs within Hong Kong for care provision for teens suffering mental health issues and raising funds for Kely Support Group who tirelessly care for the youth of Hong Kong. Bill, Chiqui, Chrissy, Pia, Rebecca, Tammy and Tracy will be tackling the walk in 4 stages, while Angela. Anna, Lauren and Ruth will be racing a head and completing the walk in a day. As we step out and step up, please show your support through generous giving. We need your donations to really make our walking impactful!Thank you in advance for your support and generosity,Team Peakies

Welcome to the third annual Junior Soccer Virtual Run and Hike Challenge called Loop the Island, organised by Hong Kong Football Club in partnership with KELY Support Group. During the time we are living through, we know that there is nothing more important than keeping active to help our physical and mental health and Loop the Island is designed to do exactly that. From 14 January to 19 February, we’re looking to see how many kilometres the Junior Soccer family (players, players’ families, coaches, friends and anyone else!) can accumulate and hence how many times we can virtually circumnavigate the approximately 62KM Hong Kong Island coastal path. We’re using SimplyGiving to fundraise to support two organisations focused on the mental health of Hong Kong children and youth: KELY Support Group and The WeezProject. Good luck and look forward to seeing your kilometres come through! Let's loop the island together.

Hi Everyone! My name is Milan Dandwani and I am a student in the UK, I have grown up in Hong Kong my whole life and as a teenager, have experienced what it's like to grow up amongst challenges regarding mental health. Mental Health amongst the youth has always been an important topic for me and remains precedent globally. Since last month was Mental Health Awareness Month was in May, a lot of light had been shed across social media regarding younger students sharing their experiences and struggles coping with issues such as anxiety, loneliness and depression. Viewing how individuals had the power to overcome these aspects of the steps they are taking to improve their mental health helped me as well. The Weez Project is an excellent group that was set up by Jamie Bruno's family in memory of him. The community group constantly strives to heighten awareness of youth mental health issues and involves themselves in campaigning to prevent youth suicide. They collaborate with communities such as the KELY Support group and raise funds for specialist youth and mental health organisations that have the expertise to deliver practical, relevant programmes and information for Hong Kong’s youth and to provide accessible, expert resources to help young people and the adults around them. Amongst our school community, Jamie was kind, creative and talented and is loved by all of his friends. I attended High School with Jamie in West Island and was in a few of his classes, though I didn’t know him very well I was lucky enough to have a few conversations with him from time to time. It is so important to be able to understand the struggles that anyone ever goes through to ensure that they don't experience feeling overwhelmed by such harmful emotions.  Doing this run is important to me as it’s helped me with my own mental health in many ways - so being able to contribute to a worthy cause such as this would be absolutely amazing. I will be running a marathon for The Weez Project in London to raise funds to ensure that individuals across Hong Kong are equipped with the support that they need to set them forward to a happier and healthier life that they can share with their families and friends. If you are able to donate in any way or to even spread awareness about this cause - it would mean so much to us. To find out more about The Weez Project, please visit the link below! :)https://weezproject.com/about-us/

Three San Ps (Arby, Charlie and Mark - also a Colloid!) have decided to walk 62km (https://weezwalk.sportsoho.com/en/routes) (we might run the down hill bits!) around Hong Kong island to raise funds for a great charity KELY Support Group and their partner the WEEZ Project - supporting youth mental health and wellbeing - something that is not discussed enough in Hong Kong. The cultural and social stigma around mental health is a huge issue - 71% survey respondents were unwilling to live with mental health sufferers, with 1 in 3 even willing to end friendships with those diagnosed with mental illness More than half believe they will be penalized at work for talking about their mental health challenges51.5% of secondary school pupils now show symptoms of depression.Youth suicide rate (aged 10-19) more than doubled from 2014-2017.KELY Support Group (https://kely.org/) is a Hong Kong-based nonprofit organisation whose mission since 1991 is to equip young people with the skills, knowledge, and opportunities needed to support themselves and each other. KELY envision a world where young people are empowered to reach their full potential. KELY collaborate with schools and other partners to offer programmes to Chinese- and English-speaking youth between the ages of 14 and 24 around three core focus areas: Drug and Alcohol Awareness, Mental Health & Wellbeing, and Positive Youth Development. The Weez Project was set up in memory of Jamie Bruno. Weez are a community group that is working to increase awareness of youth mental health issues and campaigning to prevent youth suicide.Weez's Vision is for there to be zero youth suicides in Hong Kong. Weez is there to support young people in Hong Kong who are facing mental health challenges, especially those who are contemplating self-harm or suicide. https://weezproject.com/ *Note -  SimplyGiving is not a tax exempted entity so do not issue Tax Exemption Receipts (TER). A really good charity and worthwhile cause that hopes to increase awareness of youth mental health issues and campaigning to prevent suicide.  KELY Support Group (KELY) is a Hong Kong-based nonprofit organisation whose mission since 1991 is to equip young people with the skills, knowledge, and opportunities needed to support themselves and each other. As a school teacher in HK the pressures and expectations imposed on students is immense and more often than not we forget to equip these students with the very basic skills needed to be self aware of their own wellbeing and mental health issues. With todays current social situation, affects of wellbeing has hit us all in someway or another. Most of us are however are well equipped to deal with this (just about) many are not. Raising awareness for those that struggle (particularly of a younger age) and need that extra helping hand is surely a cause worth supporting.

We are excited to announce that Weez Walk 2022 will take place from 22nd Jan to 13th Mar 2022. This is a family friendly virtual challenge organised to raise funds and increase awareness of youth mental health issues, in particular suicide prevention. What started as a personal challenge for Tony Bruno in 2021 to raise awareness of mental needs of youth in HK (check out full story here) has become an open invitation to all to join in as a community to open up conversations around youth mental health and suicide.Even if you are not a sports enthusiast or hiking lover, you can still support this charity event by making a donation. All proceeds from Weez Walk 2022 will go to KELY Support Group, and used fully to develop and deliver preventative mental health programs for young people in Hong Kong. Every dollar counts!

Later this month, I will be taking on a challenge to jog/ walk/ stumble c60KM to complete the whole loop of the coastal path around Hong Kong island to raise funds for a very important cause. Mental health in Hong Kong has a long history of negative connotation and stigma, experiencing a lack of support and resources. The situation has, in many ways, been worsened by the current pandemic, where the challenges we are all facing are exacerbating mental health issues.  The event, Loop the Island will raise funds for The Kely Support Group. Kely does amazing work to improve the mental well being of Hong Kong’s young people, often in partnership with the other organization involved in Loop the Island, the Weez Project. The Weez Project was set up by a friend of mine who sadly lost his son to suicide a few years ago and is now working tirelessly to raise awareness of and advocate for greater support for the prevention of the unfortunately growing problem of youth suicide in Hong Kong.

On Friday, 26th February, I, successfully challenged myself to walk the 62 km Hong Kong coastal path, circumnavigating Hong Kong Island in one day. I did this to raise funds and awareness for youth mental health services and development. All funds raised will benefit KELY Support Group, a youth organisation providing mental health and peer support services for young people who are struggling with stress, worry, anxiety and other mental health challenges. Please help me fundraise for KELY. Any donations, however small, will be greatly appreciated!  My walk is part of Weez Week, 22-27 February 2021, The Weez Project’s youth suicide prevention anti stigma and awareness campaign. We believe that suicide can be prevented and that we can all, as individuals and communities, help save young lives if we Talk, Listen and Care about Suicide. Please visit www.weezproject.com to join the campaign and for information and resources on suicide prevention.
