I'm running a 10K to help raise funds for ISF. ISF is a charity in Cambodia which helps to increase children's access to education, healthcare and sport. It enables underprivileged children and their communities to lift themselves out of poverty. I chose to donate to ISF because it is a charity that my sports club, Hong Kong Football Club, has a close relationship with and I visited them in Cambodia in 2019. We met the children that ISF supports, we went to the ISF school, did a community clean-up and we had a football tournament with the local children. Please support me in this fundraiser!

In 2022 my son Sebastian won a US$4000 grant with a proposal to sponsor an all girls' soccer team for U18 girls at the Indochina Startfish Foundation (ISF)Indochina Starfish Foundation (ISF)in the Slum community of Stoeng Meanchey in Phnom Penh. This money paid for a group of 20 young women all between the ages of 14-17yrs, students at ISF, to train and play soccer twice weekly for one full year. This money paid for a trained coach, rental of soccer grounds, uniform (which Sebastian helped to design), soccer shoes and transportation to games, and fees to participate in local competition. Sebastian chose to sponsor girls at ISF because we as a family, had worked with ISF in years before, going with the HKFootball club to bring soccer gear and play with local kids in the Slum community there. Families who are at this school are chosen because they are in the lowest 5% of society, and earn their living scavenging for saleable trash at the giant landfills in Stoeng Meanchey earning around US$1 a day. This made an impression on Sebastian. He wanted to separately give young disadvantaged girls the opportunity for sport & to play soccer - since girls in Phnom Penh are overlooked and not given opportunities to be play...they instead are expected to work, scavenge the landfills for family's income, help domestically at home, and rarely get to have an education, let alone play, and play a sport at that.Sabina, Francesca and I all went to Phnom Penh to join Sebastian in August 2022, and to train with the girls' team which he sponsored and watch them compete in a local tournament. We were so fortunate to get to know these young women, and their family & community. The trip was memorable, not only because these young women are incredible in their attitudes toward hardship, but their love of sport, grace, smiles and enthusiasm for their opportunities afforded them at ISF, and the chance to play soccer. As Sebastian says, "...my sponsorship enabled a group of 20 girls to forget twice a week for 90 minutes the hardship and stress of their home lives, to play, to smile, to hug one another, to be children".I would like to fundraise with my running - specifally this HKMARATHON that I've been training for in the last 2 months after a two year Covid forced haitus - in order to continue to sponsor this team of young women of ISF at Stoeng Meanchey in Phnom Penh. Ultimately, one year is not enough for them, they need to have a few years of this program to really reap the benefits of sports, excercise and play - which builds their sense of self, confidence and identity. Join me in this! For every dollar up to my target you donate, I will match! If we raise more than our target amount, we will be able to continue to fund the soccer team for an additional year, and also purchase some sewing machines that will go toward their adult education program, where mothers are given skill based lessons on sewing so that they can earn an income from ISF's cottage industry of sewing soccer uniforms for the region's teams. Our sponsored girls' team shirts are also made by these ISF Student mothers.

At ISF Cambodia, we're passionate about improving the lives of underprivileged children. Based in the country's capital, Phnom Penh, we fight to help poor families lift themselves out of poverty with a holistic mix of education, healthcare, community programmes and access to sport. Over our 14 year history, ISF has successfully touched the lives of thousands of children. We've helped 22 of them enter higher education, given 240 employment support, mentor 3500 youth in our Football Programme and count over 700 brilliant young minds as beneficiaries of our Education Programme. But the coronavirus pandemic has posed a significant challenge to our life-changing work. Donations have fallen and many of our fundraising events have been cancelled. That's why we need your help. We're taking one of our biggest fundraising events, the Angkor Wat Half Marathon, virtual this year and we want you to join us. We know its been a tough year for all, but we ask you to donate to Team ISF as we run to raise money for social programmes that give families hope for the future. Your support is greatly appreciated as we sprint into 2021!

Indochina Starfish's Education Programme will benefit from you kind donations, big or small. Thank you for supporting their cause.   "One in three Cambodian children will never finish primary school. This means they face a future without prospects, opportunities or hope. ISF’s Education Programme makes a difference in the lives of hundreds of these children, giving them a chance of a better tomorrow. We focus on children from the slums of the capital Phnom Penh who have never been able to attend school or have had to drop out due to extreme poverty. Denied this critical early education, they are left illiterate, lagging behind their peers and lacking in confidence. Our goal is to enable every one of these children to finish their education and build a better future for themselves and their communities. ISF’s community-based model transforms the lives of these children, by providing them with the quality primary education essential to further development. Thereafter we provide long-term and wide-ranging support to every child in our programme, supporting their development through secondary schooling and into further education or gainful employment."

Thank you for viewing my fundraising page. In December I will be running the Angkor Wat Half Marathon for Indochina Starfish Foundation. I was introduced to ISF when I moved to Hong Kong. I have visited the charity in Phnom Penh where I was able to meet the children who benefit from the programs run by ISF and the amazing staff who work tirelessly to help the most disadvantaged in Cambodian society. We visited one of the schools where the education programmes are given. These provide children who have often had to work from a young age with the chance to catch up with the education they have missed and then re-enter formal schooling. It really is a fantastic organisation and I would be incredibly grateful for any donation, large or small. Thank you, Alex

Our team is made up of members of all abilities. We run (and jog and walk) for fun and hope while doing so to raise awareness and lots of funds for the Indochina Starfish Foundation (ISF), an NGO in Phnom Penh changing the lives of some of Cambodia's most disadvantaged children through education, health and sports. We're very proud that three former students will be joining us this year. All of them beat the odds to finish high school and hope to go on to university in the coming months. It's successes like these that will help us over the finish line in December. Click 'Donate Now' to help us make a difference to more children like them.

The South West Coast Path is Britain's longest defined pathway which opened in 1978.  Many people have walked the path although most do so over many years via repeated one or two week trips.  I am hoping to do it in 31 days covering approximately 20 miles a day.  It is a proper challenge and whilst I have been training for 3 months, I am not sure I can do it.  That's why it is a challenge but one which I hope will benefit many under-privilege Cambodian children over many years.

After taking a break from charity running for a few years, I'll be running the Ankur Wat Half Marathon in Cambodia next month to support The Indochina Starfish Foundation (ISF), a charity which helps some of the poorest, most disadvantaged children in Cambodia.  Through its education and football (soccer) programmes, IFS works to develop healthy, educated and confident young Cambodians with career opportunities which can allow them and their families to escape the cycle of poverty which still blights many in Cambodian society.  In addition to education IFS looks after the children’s health and monitors their welfare, currently looking after 225, which they hope will grow to 450 students by 2016.   IFS’ football programme also operates a football league, which operates for 6 months a year and hosts two annual tournaments held in March for boys and girls.  In addition to giving these kids a much needed outlet to have fun and be healthy, the platform is also used educate these young boys and girls about the dangers of alcohol, gambling, drugs, gender equality, domestic violence and human trafficking.

For the past couple of months I've been lucky enough to work in one of the Indochina Starfish  Foundations schools based here in Phnom Penh. The kids are just great, and through getting to know them over the two months I can really see how just a little money can go a long, long way. The school is not just a school, its a second home for them. They can learn, they can play, they can relax and they can be kids. The team here, including the teachers, the nurses and everyone behind the scenes work incredibly hard to support the kids in every way possible and now I want to do my part!So please if you have the time and a spare penny or two, I and all those part of the ISF team would be HUGELY grateful to any donations. If you want any more information on the foundation or what the money will go towards then please get in contact with me!Thank you thank you thank you,Lucy Hogg
