Empowering A Better Future
Poverty has always been and still is a cause for concern in
many places around the world. Despite the amount of effort made to create
awareness by many organisations and to raise funds to support the
underprivileged; we have yet to see significant changes as it has become a norm
for some of these communities where they have learnt to adapt and live with it,
turning into a vicious cycle.
Youth, the future of the country. Many of them have dreams
but it remains just that, a dream. Not believing that they have the power to
realise it. Some dare not even dream. For many, they lose sight of it after a
while, to the reality of life in order to make a living, support their family.
Forced to work, to earn so that they can survive. While on the other side of
the spectrum, the rich are getting richer. Have you ever wondered why?
We believe that the key to breaking the poverty cycle is to
educate, to raise awareness. They will not only gain exposure, a wider
perspective of life for them to make inspired choices but also realise the
potential in them. We want them to see that the world is their oyster. The
community would shift as they begin to work towards their dreams and realise
that they have the ability to create a successful life for themselves.
In March – May 2015, we selected 34 youths for our
Self-empowering, Transition & Employability Programme (STEP). STEP is a
10-week career empowerment programme which seeks to build and nurture
employability and transitional skills amongst the underprivileged youth in
Malaysia. We have had the satisfaction of watching each and every one of them
coming out of their shell, stepping up, week after week throughout the
programme.
Now, we wish to run an extension of this programme for 200
underprivileged & refugee youth (aged between 13 and 19) in Malaysia. It
will be a day of discovery, exposure, learning and understanding the different
and unique career opportunities available today. We hope that through this event,
they will realise that it is more than possible to support their family by
following their passion and having a dream career. This event will also be open
to the public for a nominal fee as we believe that this will also be beneficial
to Secondary schools & College students.
The future of these underpriviledged / refugee youth are
limited if no actions are taken to expose them to the limitless opportunities around
them. We rely on voluntary contributions from beautiful people like you in
order to continuously run programmes and events build to train the youth to
become financially self-sustainable by the time they leave the orphanage /
community homes.
