My Story

Hi friends, and friends-of-friends, and family! Thank you for visiting my personal fundraising page. I joined the cycling trip at the last minute so am fundraising after the trip but I think it's better because now I know why I will put all my effort into trying to raise as much money as I can. 15 of us cycled from Vietnam to Cambodia- 550 km and when it was tough and we wanted to quit (and believe me there were some tough days) we'd think of the girls we met in the two Somaly Mam shelters and how they have endured unimaginable torture- beaten, raped, sold into slavery, caged, starved, victims of the most brutal human traffiking and how they still laughed with us and danced and cried as we embraced them trying to lighten some of their burden. These sweet girls showed us what true courage is. We now see them as our daughters and as our sisters. They reminded us that we really are Global Citizens. We cycled with two beautiful Cambodia girls- our sisters for life- who have overcome horrendous situations to be Guiding Lights for the other girls. And for us. I am forever changed by the strength of the souls we met and meeting Somaly Mam- an extraordinarily beautiful and courageous soul. I recommend you go to Amazon.com and read inside her memoir- just the introduction and order her book - I read it on the trip every night to give me strength for the next (5 a.m rise and 60-90k cycle) and to meet her was such an honor.(Youtube: Half The Sky) If we all do our little part, we CAN change the world. As Somaly said to me: "One girl at a time." The money goes to Angels for Orphans and then is passed on to the Somaly Mam shelters where the girls are safe. We promised them we would always make sure they are safe- and fundraising is our way to do it. They were so grateful to us- we know we can't let them down. All donations will go towards the Somaly Mam Foundation (www.somaly.org). The girls need your support. THANK YOU! Thanks for joining this virtual community of compassionate, generous donors. (100HK is only $12 CAD so careful with currency conversion!!) Through simplygiving.com you can make safe and secure donations to sponsor me. The proceeds of your support are immediately sent directly to my charity. Using this given platform is really simple and most importantly it's also a really cost efficient way for the charity to raise funds. Thank you, thank you! And remember: There but for the grace of the birth lottery goes you or I or our daughters and nieces.
