Personal Challenge

Instead of wondering what to buy me for Bday, please support the project which aims to provide education opportunities to refugees!

My Story

I travel a lot and often change places, therefore what I value the most is intangible, it's a connection between people, it's the time we spent together. I have learned how to value moments more than luggage.  This year I was pleased to volunteer at the Refugee School in Kuala Lumpur where with a group of volunteers we were offering our time to kids who need to catch up with their peers. I always believed education changes perspective, but only now I have seen it so clearly. I believe, if only we could empower young people and provide them with basic abilities, they will flourish, they will become sustainable adults who support their community.

Unfortunately, since September 2014 refugees children in Malaysia cannot attend public school, so the only place they can receive education are social educational centres, which run based on support and donation from the communities. They are the only doors for these vulnerable kids to enter the world of education, but also safety and prosperity (many studies show how level of education correlates with the income level and chances of keeping employment).

Refugee Fact Book (the project)

At the same time, there is a lot of stigma around refugees in Malaysia, unfortunately. Therefore with a group of amazing friends we have decided to gather stories of refugees in Malaysia to run a social campaign showcasing their experience. We would like to diminish harmful stereotypes and stigmas around them as well as encourage local Malaysian and foreigners living here to support them however they can. We aim to publish the book with stories as well as engage with the community via social campaign. In order for that to happen, we need money to print books, therefore:  My Birthday Present kind request - I would ask you to donate my b'day present and let me spend it on the book. Later, whatever profit we generate, we promise to donate it to the education centres run by CyberCare Malaysia. I believe education changes perspective, sometimes you need to educate individuals, sometimes the whole society.
