My Story

A Brief History of World Youth Alliance (WYA)

The World Youth Alliance (WYA) began in 1999 when 21-year-old Anna Halpine stood up for human dignity during a conference at the United Nations. Since then, WYA has grown to include tens of thousands of members around the world with six regional offices, all dedicated to the defense of the dignity of the person through education, culture, and advocacy.        World Youth Alliance is an international non-profit comprised of individuals committed to promoting the dignity of every human person through policy and culture. WYA is a United Nations ECOSOC-accredited organization, and works closely with the UN, the European Union, as well as local and regional organs in defending the dignity of persons from all walks of life.

WYA believes in the intrinsic, inviolable, and universal dignity of the person; in the family as the most fundamental unit of society where we learn how to live in genuine freedom and solidarity; and in integral human development characterized by physical, mental, spiritual, and emotional growth.

WYA invites all those who share these convictions to join them in affirming them and give them effect in public life at all levels.

The Story of World Youth Alliance Laguna

The year 2016 proved to be another milestone. World Youth Alliance Asia Pacific (WYAAP) officially launched a new Provincial Chapter in San Pablo City, Laguna, Philippines.

In a time where human rights is in its most relevant and challenged state in the Philippines, the discourse supporting its principles has never been this necessary. With this challenge, ten (10) youth from the province of Laguna, with their utmost passion on humanitarian affairs, decided to formalize their ideals and strong support to human dignity. Through the leadership of Ms. Lorie Anne Cruz, a Certified WYA Member and WYAAP Emerging Leaders Conference (ELC) Alumna, World Youth Alliance Laguna was made official last December 13, 2016.

The Chapter was formed out of the founders’ intent to promote and build a positive environment for the youth of Laguna, Philippines. From starting with just four core members, it has now grown into a family of thirty two (32) members from across the 24 municipalities and 6 cities of the province. Through sharing the mission of WYA, they believe that they can educate the youth about respecting one another despite differences in one’s culture or social background, and about the value of creativity in initiating positive impact in one’s community. Ms. Cruz started her involvement in WYA as an online trainee of the Certified Training Program. Having successfully completed the training program, she then hoped to bring WYA to the lush community of San Pablo City, Laguna as she and her friends yearned for an organization that promoted the dignity of the human person. Besides Lorie, the WYA Laguna Chapter will be under the leadership of its core team members, Abegail Talavera, Clyde Villanueva, and Kenna Evangelista.

In line with this, we are seeking for your support through monetary aid in order for the WYA campus tour to materialize. Your donation will surely leave a mark in the future activities and events of the organization for the citizens of the province.

These are the objectives of our event:

a.    To explain the history of World Youth Alliance, our charter and our advocacy.
b.    To fully understand the importance the dignity of the human person and why do we need to defend it.
c.     To explain the role of human rights in protecting the dignity of the human person.
d.    To explain how arts and culture can affect the authentic development of the human person that is inclined to our intrinsic dignity.
