My Story

Unfortunately like most of you I have lost friends and family to cancer. In some cases I have seen too many members of the same family succumb to the disease. Cancer has no respect for age, gender, race, culture etc. There was a time when being diagnosed with cancer was like a death sentence. Thankfully that is no longer the case. Advances in diagnostics and treatment mean that survival rates are better than they have ever been and are improving all the time.. We all know people who have fought and won against cancer. It is fantastic that MSD is at the forefront of this battle.

One of the often forgotten heroes in the battle against cancer are the carers who support and advise those suffering from cancer and their family members. I seen this first hand a number of years ago when a close family member suffered with terminal cancer. The support that the carers gave was inspirational - full of integrity and respect for both the patient and their family. They have remarkable resilience.

It is societies like the Singapore Cancer Society that help to provide funding for vital services such as hospice care, welfare aid, free transport to/from treatment centres, screening etc. They also do a great deal of work to raise awareness about cancer on topics such as prevention early detection etc.

I am taking part so that the Singapore Cancer Society can continue to run these vital services for all cancer impacted families and especially the carers. Please support this fund raising effort and contribute what you can. As the saying goes "If you always give, you will always have".

    Thanks John for contributing your time and effort to this meaningful cause! Cancer is a fearful event for the patient and their family. It will demand much time, effort and money for the patient and their care giver. Thankfully we have the Singapore Cancer Society to support them. I support this cause as it is a personal experience to me. Well done, John!
