I am running the Singapore Marathon for this fantastic charity that provides sexual health screening, counselling and programs for people living with HIV in Malaysia. They particularly try to work with at risk groups who due to taboos are very poorly represented.

I'm 24 years old lady. I'm a patient at Neurology Clinic Sarawak General Hospital, Sarawak, Malaysia. I have highly active relapsing remitting Multiple Sclerosis, a type of brain and nerve inflammation that without treatment could lead to permanent disability. I was diagnosed in Oct, 2014 and has several relapses despite interferon, prednisolone, azathioprine and mycophenolate mofetil. I have 3-4 relapses per year and in June 2018, I was admitted to Sarawak General Hospital, Sarawak, Malaysia for another relapse. I has relapse despite on SC Interferon and would be benefit from Fingolimod 0.5mg OD to prevent further relapses and maintain my health. Fingolimod 0.5mg is costly RM68 400 in Malaysia (USD$ 16 911.44)for one whole year while I need this medicine for my lifetime.

From the day to day listening, supporting and giving advice to all my clients, I feel that now is the time for me to give back to the society. I have been a volunteer in tutoring the children aged 4 to 17 teaching English and most of them are sadly to say they are weak in English language. In this rapid world, English is one of the most important language used globally throughout the world. However, these low level income families do not have adequate financial resources to send them to learning centers to give extra education. Also, most kids result in poor scores in most subjects at school as their parents could not provide education at home due to poor education background. The community are people living with HIV, either they are infected or affected with HIV. HIV has been known as a 'deadly disease' since there is no cure until present. But with the current treatment which is called Highly Active Anti Retroviral treatment or HAART, they can live their life doing daily routines just as normal as others to work, play, have fun and most importantly; being accepted in the norm society. Let's bridge the gap and accept people living with HIV or PLHIV in the society by reducing stigma and discrimination. PT Foundation is recruiting volunteers to mentor children who are infected or affected by HIV. These children live in stressful environments, which impact their emotional and psychological development. Many have lost a parent to AIDS, and teenagers are indirectly encouraged to hide their own or their caregivers’ HIV status. Moreover, the teenagers and their caregivers under-appreciate the importance of education, self empowerment, and awareness. These children have very poor English speaking skills which is a necessary skill to build careers and break out of the poverty cycle.
