Climb Any Mountain

Hiya! Thank you for visiting my personal fundraising page set up to raise funds for the less privileged individuals in South Africa with learning disabilities and mental illness. First and foremost, let me give you a brief introduction of myself and the expedition: Who am I? As a point of introduction, I am Krystle, a typical Singaporean city girl with a 9-5 office job. I love sleeping and eating and spending time building rapport with my couch and television. The most outdoor-ish activity I have ever done in my entire life is perhaps my Sec 3 school camp and trust me, I barely survived it! Needless to say, I know nuts about surviving in the wild and definitely do not have the physical body to survive in one. So why did I sign up for this expedition? I have always wanted to experience living in the wild before I get too old for it. It is actually on my bucket list =) Thus, when I came across the expedition by chance, I asked myself, “If not now, then when? If not this, then what?” Most importantly, this is for a GOOD CAUSE! I am actually using my efforts to raise funds for the less privileged individuals in South Africa. What are the funds for? Trekkin Tahan 2013 is one of Climb Any Mountain initiatives, a charity working towards transforming the living conditions for people with learning disabilities and mental illnesses in South Africa. The funds raised through this event will go towards developing of premises and services for these less privileged individuals. Where are we going? As most of you might have read from the event introduction, we are going to Mount Tahan (2,187m). I am not surprised if you have not heard about it, because neither have I before this trip. I guess most of us are more familiar with Mount Kinabalu (4,101m) and/or Mount Ophir (1,276m). Though Mount Tahan is not as high as Mount Kinabalu, it is definitely equally as challenging, if not more, taking into consideration that it is not as developed as Mount Kinabalu in terms of facility for trekkers and it is nearly twice the height of Ophir. There is also a reason why it is called Mount Tahan (Malay word for Endure), according to Wikipedia, it is “one of the toughest treks in Peninsular Malaysia” and “trekkers would require certain level of physical endurance to conquer it.” This is in addition to the heavy backpack that we are carrying and camping in the wild away from all civilisations -_-“ When will the expedition be? The team of 5 members (made up of individuals from all walks of life) will be embarking on our 4 days 3 nights trekking trip on 25 March 2013. The expedition will no doubt, be a challenge to us both physically and mentally but we are all training hard for it in our own ways as we know that for every step we take during the expedition, it goes a long way in raising funds for the less privileged individuals in South Africa. To know more about how we are preparing for the event, feel free to visit our blog (http://www.climbanymountain.org/training-to-trek-mount-tahan/)or facebook page (https://www.facebook.com/climbnemountain?fref=ts) How can you help? I hope you can feel the team’s and my sincerity in trying to help these less fortunate people and support us for this worthy cause by making a donation to the team. All donations, regardless of amount will be deeply appreciated. A small amount from you can make a big difference to others in their time of need. Please dig deep and donate, every little counts! On behalf of all those who received your warmth and kindness, I thank you for your donations =) Also, thank you for your support towards the team and me =D Thanks and cheers, Krystle Through simplygiving.com you can make safe and secure donations to sponsor me. The proceeds of your support are immediately sent directly to my charity. Climb Any Mountain

Hello there! Nice to meet you! I am Jasmine from Singapore =) This is my personal Fund Raising Page which I have set up as part of upcoming strenuous expedition which I will be participating in. I will be part of the 5 member team from all walks of life who will be taking up the challenge in Trekkin' Tahan from 24 March 2013 to 29 March 2013 with the aim to raise money for Climb Any Mountain. The funds raised will be mean a big difference to the disadvantaged people with learning disabilities and mental illness in South Africa. Quoted from Wikipedia: "Mount Tahan (Malay: Gunung Tahan), at 2,187 m, is the highest point in Peninsular Malaysia. It is located within the Taman Negara national forest, in the state of Pahang. In the Malay language, "gunung" means "mountain," while "tahan" means "endure". Thus, the name of the mountain suggests that a certain level of physical endurance is required to conquer it. Gunung Tahan is considered by many to be one of the toughest treks in Peninsular Malaysia." I am bent on taking up this expedition to challenge myself (mentally and physically) and also for good cause (Fund raising of course!). To let you guys in on the truth, despite been on Earth for the past 20 over years, I have neither really tried wild camping nor have I actually trekked up a 'real' mountain before (the highest peak I have even scaled was Bukit Timah Hill located in Singapore, standing at an altitude of 163.63 metres (537 ft.)). Therefore, by comparing Bukit Timah Hill to that of massive Mount. Tahan, it is virtually like climbing up a flight of steps to the 50 floors versus climbing up an endless flights of steps up to almost 730 floors!!! Gosh~ not to mention that we will be carrying our own tents, sleeping bags, food, cooking in the wild etc, not to leave out having to cross multiple rivers on foot with all our full packed gear! To top it off, I am not a physically fit person for I love to indulge my spare time eating and reading (sounds pretty unhealthy huh)... As such, the successful completion of this trek up to the summit of Mount Tahan will be a huge challenge to me. Believe in yourself, and you can do it - this is what I always tell myself whenever I face any challenges! Nevertheless, I truly believe that an adventure for a life time awaits us, as we prepare to trek our way across rivers and forests up to the summit of Gunung Tahan (Mount. Tahan) to raise funds for disadvantaged people with learning disabilities and mental illness in South Africa! I am currently really looking forward to the challenge and have never been to Mount. Tahan before. A few of my friends have had wonderful experiences from trekking / wild camping and I know that they would agree with me if I am to say that we often get more from these experiences than you could have ever imagined! This expedition will challenge our team not only physically, but also mentally and emotionally. Throughout each step we take in this endurance trek, we hope to raise some funds (all sponsors will be deeply appreciated, no matter how small, for it's the thoughts that counts) for the needy of Africa. we truly hope that each of you can sense our heartfelt sincerity and perseverance in trying to help these unfortunate people in the other corner of the world. From the bottom of my heart, I sincerely hope that all of you can help to put a positive spin on the world for a worthy cause by sponsoring at our efforts! ~All the funds raised will be used for the disadvantaged people with learning disabilities and mental illness in South Africa!~ The most valuable things in life are not measured in monetary terms. The really important things are not houses and lands, stocks and bonds, automobiles and real state, but friendships, trust, confidence, empathy, mercy, love and faith. -Bertrand Russell V. Delong You may want to read more on our preparation for our upcoming expedition on our team blog at: http://www.climbanymountain.org/training-to-trek-mount-tahan/ On behalf of all those who will receive your kindness and warmth, I sincerely thank you for shining a light in the darkness of their lives, for being their beacon of hope when all seem bleak, for sharing with them a part of life which without your kind contribution, they might never have the chance experience if not for you. Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! May you have a blessed and wonderful lifetime ahead! Please dig deep and donate, every little counts! Hello Dear Friends, As many of you know, I will be trekking through a Malaysian rainforest called Taman Nagara, and up Mount Tahan the last week of March. The trek will take four days, as we make our way into the deep and dark jungle and then up the mountain. Physically, the trek will be challenging to say the least; we'll cover a distance of over 60km and the first two days we will be walking upwards only , covering an incline of about 2000m. On the third day we'll wake up very early in the morning and reach the summit by sunrise, and then head down again, leaving the forest late on the fourth day. The challenge however, does not end with the physical! We will be completely removed from all civilization, sleeping in tents, carrying everything we need, dealing the creepy crawlies and intense humidity and so on. I started training for this endevour a while ago, climbing anything mountain-like in Singapore, preparing myself best I can! What I've really figured out is that I don't enjoy hiking or walking upwards at all - this is going to be a full on adventure for me, taking me way outside my comfort zone. (If you're interested in reading about my training efforts, visit http://www.climbanymountain.org/training-to-trek-mount-tahan/ to read my blog.) Of course, I am doing all this for a good cause - otherwise I'd be nowhere near a rainforest, or a tent for that matter! Climb Any Mountain is a charity some friends and I started in January 2012. We support adults with learning disabilities and mental illness in South Africa, and are currently raising funds to build our first supported living house - our first step towards transforming what is available in South Africa. Through simplygiving.com you can make safe and secure donations to sponsor me. The proceeds of your support are immediately sent directly to my charity. No donation is too small (or too big)!! Thank you in advance and I'll let you know how I get on!! Pia
