What does Fam-unity entail?Fam-unity is a project centered around a cocktail competition, with the aim of making a positive impact on our community through the creative vision of bartenders. The project's main objective is to raise awareness about the importance of sharing messages of love, care, and respect within our primary community, our "family."In Hong Kong's food and beverage industry, many individuals find themselves consumed by their daily work and subsequent activities, leaving little time for family bonding. Moreover, some individuals have relocated and are unable to engage in conversations with their parents, siblings, or children for extended periods of time. This is why Fam-unity was established.Why Mother's Choice?Mother's Choice is a local charity that supports children without families and pregnant teenagers in Hong Kong. In reality, numerous children live without the companionship of their family, making them the "first community" for ordinary people. By providing opportunities for F&B workers to express love towards their families, Fam-unity also extends a helping hand to those who lack opportunities, assisting them in integrating into the social community with love and guidance.What is the objective?In addition to making donations, our goal is for everyone to engage in self-reflection regarding how they demonstrate love towards their family. By taking action to appreciate and express gratitude to their family, we hope to foster a sense of unity and strengthen familial bonds.Let's raise a toast and express our heartfelt wishes for the project to create a positive impact on children who are in need. I'll be running the HK100 on 20th January 2024 - my 6th race dressed as a panda raising money for a fantastic charity in Hong Kong that supports children, young mothers and children without families. Please sponsor me! Mothers Choice run a care home for babies and children with special needs serving over 100 children each year. They also manage a foster care service and offer loving and non-judgmental support to pregnant teenagers. Their goal is to see every child in a safe, loving, and permanent family, to ensure that every child can either be reunited with their birth family, or join an adoptive family as soon as possible.

As many of you know we were lucky enough to meet Henry back in June 2015. At the time he was living in a care home provided by an amazing charity here in Hong Kong called Mother’s Choice. Henry was fortunate enough to live there for 6 months of his life, after spending the first 9 months of his life in hospital, cared only by nurses. Once he moved to Mother’s Choice he found himself surrounded by other children, love, laughter, and care and immediately started to thrive. When he arrived he was what is described as “developmentally delayed”; after arriving at Mother’s Choice and finally being given the chance to be a “normal” child, he began a journey to become the smart, confident, sassy 7 year old he is now. When we met him I had to spend 2 weeks as part of the Mother’s Choice family, learning about Henry but also spending time as a volunteer helping with the other kids. It broke my heart that we could only bring Henry home, there were so many other children there that equally deserved loving families. As Henry approaches his 8th birthday he is starting to reflect a lot more on where he came from. We have always been open about his adoption and are grateful that he has friends who are also adopted, some of whom were also at Mother’s Choice, giving him plenty of opportunities to ask so many questions! When I asked Henry what presents he would like for his birthday this year, he paused and finally said that actually he didn’t really need anything. So we talked about what else we could do and we decided that instead of presents, he would really like to use that money to give back to kids who don’t have loving families to spoil them. Raising money for Mother’s Choice therefore became his idea and something we want to support. As Covid finally recedes from Hong Kong we are back in the fortunate position of being able to hold a physical party again this year, having not had one for him for several years. This year we are having a joint party with one of his best friends, Tom, who happens to have a birthday only a few days away from Henry. Tom is also graciously asking his friends to donate money, allowing both our boys the chance to give something back to the community. Henry and Tom would be delighted, therefore, if you would consider donating to this worthy cause in lieu of their birthday present. Mother's Choice is local charity and home serving children without families and pregnant teenagers across Hong Kong. The work they do is so invaluable and important. I have grown up in Mid-Levels, about 5 minutes away from Mother's Choice. Walking past on a daily basis has prompted my desire to give back in any small way that I can. From the 16th until the 22nd of May, I will be walking daily to fundraise for Mother's Choice. My goal is to reach at least 175,000 steps (roughly 25,000 steps per day). I am so grateful for any support - every small bit counts! - Almost 4,000 children in Hong Kong live in institutional care, with hundreds more without safe, loving, and permanent homes. The longer a child lives without a family, the more detrimental it can be to their development. - At any time, almost 4,000 children live apart from their families due to a number of reasons, including neglect, abuse, violence in the home, abandonment, economic hardship, and incarceration. - Mother's Choice always aims to place children with their biological families, but knows this isn't always possible for mother and child. Mother's Choice enables fostering and adoption for these children to find their forever home. - The majority of the 7,000 crisis pregnancies in Hong Kong each year are single girls are under the age of 25. These young women face discrimination and condemnation in Hong Kong's conservative society. Mother's Choice offers them education, support and guidance. Thank you for reading. - Lili

Out of sheer boredom (and obvious stupidity) I will be rowing solo 45km+ around Hong Kong Island on November 21. I’ve done this once before in a double, and swore to never do it again because it was so painful and draining. Last time it took about 5hrs and my goal this year is to try and get as close to that time as possible, but on my own. I figured since the opportunity to do it solo was on offer, I might as well do it for a good cause.To that end, I am fundraising for Mother’s Choice - a charity that has helped countless children find a home and countless young women plan out their lives. With their help some of our friends have adopted children, improving lives all around. At any point in time, over 4,000 kids in Hong Kong are living in institutional care. Another 4,000 are separated from their families. And every year there are nearly 7,000 crisis pregnancies. Ever since the COVID pandemic, there is a growing number of child abuse cases in Hong Kong and it is growing at an alarming rate. As a mother of two, my heart aches each time I read a child got neglected and abused by their biological parents and/or caretaker. I think every child deserves a loving family and a chance to learn. If there are more resources allocated to help these less fortunate children get better care at Mother's Choice, find a new home, or even just find a foster family, it would at least make this world seem to be a better and more hopeful place for these young children. I decided to start a fundraising campaign for Mother's Choice by selling my home-baked madeleines. All the proceeds will go to Mother's Choice. Box of 4 madeleines (lemon-flavored, nut-free, each individually wrapped and placed in a cake box) for HK $100.

Hello I'm 9 years old, I've been sharing my prenatal journey of how I've selected my mom since age 5. I'm designing my book called “Mama I came far for you” in both English and Chinese, sharing my prenatal journey and hope all babies deserve the love from their mothers. I truly hope every kids deserve more love from their families and salute to all amazing moms who are loving and raising children. I want to make a difference by creating my own storybook about my prenatal memory, raising money for a cause close to my heart. Please support me by donating and/or buying my story book, all revenue will be donated to Mother's Choice, I believe all kids deserve love!I'm planning to print and also preparing eBook for environmental-friendly choice, all book sale revenue will be donated to Mother’s Choice. I have also invited my friends and schoolmates to support me by sending in a picture of their mom’s paintings, the works will also be included in the storybook and exhibited at a mini art gallery.
