A few years ago a talented HK rugby player, Tony Ho, was killed shortly after attending Leeds University. He had previously attended Mount St. Mary's College near Sheffield, UK and during holidays he played for Kowloon RFC. After his untimely death his school set up the Tony Ho Rugby Camp each summer, led by coaches from the Natal Sharks and Kowloon RFC have been sending 15-20 HK children to participate. The HK children have been drawn from Kowloon Rugby Club, Sai Kung Stingrays and for the last two years Breakthrough Rugby Club. Breakthrough was chosen as we have a link with the senior club and our stronger players who want to play Premiership rugby, after graduating from colts rugby, are encouraged to join them. In addition Breakthrough has always been one of the recipient charities of the renowned Kowloon Rugby Fest. The Camp will be held  from 30 July to 3 August in 2018.Breakthrough rugby club is part of Operation Breakthrough, a HK registered charity that uses sport to help children at risk and over the 14 years the rugby team have been running we have entered teams in the local colts events, introducing many local children to the game and its fantastic values. The charity is run by serving and ex-HK policemen, so it also helps to strengthen the ties between young people in the local community and the Force. Although our prime aim is to us sport to change lives and it is all about participating, it never hurts to have some success and we have had many children play in HK representative teams at all levels and are particularly proud that 18 of the kids from the rugby section have gone on to join the HK Police. Of the boys who were among those who have previously attended the MSM Camp, two are currently in the HK U-19 team.Over the years the cost of attending the camp has grown but we see this as a fantastic opportunity for the children to not only participate in a great rugby camp, which improves their rugby skills, but also a chance to see the UK and learn something about the country and its culture. Consequently rather than cut back on the numbers we have been asking the boys to contribute towards their trip. Unfortunately for many of the Breakthrough boys this would put the camp beyond their reach and so they are entering in the Standard Chartered 10 km race and are looking for sponsors.Standard Chartered Bank are also Breakthrough's rugby section's title sponsor and they have kindly given us 10 free places in the 10 Km run on 21 January 2018, on the same day as the HK Marathon. Gunny our head coach and nine of the boys who are in contention to attend the camp have signed up and they are now looking for support. Please give generously to this cause. For the last two years Mount St Mary’s College, in the UK, have organised a summer rugby camp for over a 100 boys from around the world. The camp is run by the Natal Sharks and involves 10 days of fun activities and some high quality rugby coaching, with a chance to interact with a number of international players. Mount St. Mary’s is the school attended by former Hong Kong Under 20 international and Kowloon player Tony Ho, who was tragically killed while studying at university. On the back of that devastating incident, the school and Kowloon have developed a close relationship forged on the determination to honour Tony’s memory and create a lasting legacy in his name. Funds raised over the past few years from the Kowloon RugbyFest tournament go to support youngsters from Kowloon Lions, Sai Kung Stingrays and Operation Breakthrough attending the summer camp, and in addition one boy from Breakthrough is attending the school for a year’s study giving him the opportunity to study overseas and to receive some great rugby coaching.   The Kowloon Rugby Fest, held just before the HK Sevens, has been able to fund the last two trips and the scholarship this year. However this is not sustainable going forward and so this year Kowloon will be asking the boys who are attending the rugby camp to contribute towards the costs. Through this extra funding we should be able to make both the camp and the scholarship a regular  annual exercise to remember Tony and also give a great opportunity to a number of local HK boys.   Obviously  it will be difficult for the Breakthrough boys to raise money towards the camp and so with some help from Standard Chartered Bank, our sponsors of the Breakthrough Rugby Section we have obtained five places in the 10K run at the HK Marathon on 12 February 2017. We have asked five boys', who at this stage of the season are most likely to be nominated to attend the camp, to fill these  five spots and we are looking to raise sponsorship for five Breakthrough boys to attend the Tony Ho Rugby Camp in August 2017. Any additional money raised will be used to help with the funding of the scholarship. Any donation however small is welcome and for those in HK donations over $100 are tax deductible.   Further details on Operation Breakthrough can be found at our web site and if anyone has any queries please contact Steve Tarrant. The 5 boys successfully completed the run and attached is a couple of photos of them at the finish.

Hi All As you know my it was my intention to climb Mount Kilimanjiro this November however I have been advised that there is shortly to be a travel advisory extended to West Africa due to Ebola and I have taken the very reluctant decision to postpone my trip until next year and hope to climb in May 2015 in memory of my late Brother Andrew who passed away at the very young age of 48 on July 1st this year. I fully intend to climb the mountain as well as to attempt several other rather fool hardy adventures along the way such as visiting the source of the Ganges in India and to trek across part of the Gobi in Mongolia to raise money for this great charity and as you see I still have a way to go so all donations will be greatly appreciated by the people that Cross Roads supports, so dig deep! With Regards Robert

Right beautiful people, I'll keep this brief. On 17th May I'm going to attempt the Great Wall of China Half Marathon in Beijing. Only a half I hear you cry? Well yes - but before you put away your wallets, it's considered one of the hardest marathons in the world with a gruelling 5,164 steps up (some as tall as your thigh) in the first 7kms. So that, coupled with 3 severely dodgy discs in my back and a recent bad case of pneumonia which took me out of training for almost 6 weeks, means that my half marathon here is your fit persons 'marathon de sables'. Want proof of the crazy? Watch this... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kF_08QYo-Ec For all who know me, you know rugby is one of my life's passions. Proud Rosslyn Park ladies section founding player and VP, now HK Society Referee and roving Pirates RFC coach and senior section manager - it's fair to say I live, eat and breathe rugby. So it seems most fitting that I'm going to complete this challenge for a truly fantastic rugby charity - 'Operation Breakthrough'. Operation Breakthrough uses rugby and other sport as a means to help, rehabilitate and positively reinforce behaviour in young people from disadvantaged backgrounds or families: helping to fight crime and juvenile delinquency amongst low income and immigrant communities and helping them to develop into responsible and positive thinking adults. The charity is run by a fabulous set of volunteers and the money raised specifically from this endeavour will go towards a planned 2014-2015 season rugby tour for the boys who play for the Breakthrough Team here in HK. SimplyGiving.com is a safe and easy way to donate and I'm going to hound every single person I know to help me get to my target. Please, please dig deep and help give these young men some wonderful sporting memories. Thanks all! Sally Leonard (Rosslyn Park RFC UK, Pirates RFC HK, HK Society Referee and mate of you all)
