Hi all, :)I'm raising money for the MareCet Research Organisation (marecet.org) through ERM Foundation Malaysia's Cash-Splash!ERM, the environmental consultancy I work for, through our employee-led ERM Foundation, is running a campaign through September to October to raise much-needed funds to help MareCet (Malaysia's only Marine Mammal NGO) raise funds to support their conservation research and operations.The main challenge that MareCet faces is the lack of resources.  With your support, MareCet will be able to expand and continue to perform their research and conservation work on marine mammals, marine education and outreach programmes.   MareCet has three (3) active research projects in Peninsular Malaysia: (i) Langkawi Dolphin Research (ii) Matang Dolphin Research, Perak (iii) Dugong Research and Conservation, Pulau Sibu, JohorDonate to the Cash-Splash and ERM Foundation pledges to match 75% of the total funds raised throughout this campaign which will go directly to MareCet!They are an amazing organisation run by truly amazing people! *UPDATE: Campaign's extended to 14th October! Need a bit more to reach the 2 weeks target!ERM, the environmental consultancy firm I work for, through the ERM Foundation, is running a campaign to raise much-needed funds to help MareCet continue our operations. For this campaign, I pledge to bring a dugong (as in the dugong hat - see the pic) with me where I go be it on the LRT to and from work, to meetings with clients, to outings with the family, and everywhere in between to raise awareness on the work that MareCet is involved in. As most of you know, I don't like attention and tend to stay in the background. I'm happy to forsake that comfort in the name of raising awareness on this issue, and I'd like to challenge you to lend me your support to get me to go through with it.                                           I co-founded MareCet with Louisa in 2012 to conduct research on marine mammals in Malaysia and using the data to help push for positive changes in the way we manage our ocean. Beyond the research and policy advocacy work, we also founded MareCet to provide a platform for aspiring marine biologists and future marine conservationists to learn and gain experience in this field. Seven years on, we now have a team of great people running three research programs, awareness campaigns, and participate in policy development activities on a local, national, regional and global levels. I co-founded MareCet with Louisa in 2012 to conduct research on marine mammals in Malaysia and using the data to help push for positive changes in the way we manage our ocean. Beyond the research and policy advocacy work, we also founded MareCet to provide a platform for aspiring marine biologists and future marine conservationists to learn and gain experience in this field. Seven years on, we now have a team of great people running three research programs, awareness campaigns, and participate in policy development activities on a local, national, regional and global levels.One of the main projects MareCet is working on is to get the proposed Johor Dugong Sanctuary formally established as a Marine Protected Area in Malaysia so that the dugong population in the area can then have some hope to survive. We estimate less than 100 animals are currently left in the area, and we have already lost about 10% of them in the last 2 years.  Please help me reach (and hopefully exceed!) my fundraising target. George and Sim are young consultants focusing on Health, Safety and Sustainability (EHSS) services. We strongly believe that education or awareness is one of the vital puzzle pieces to solve climate change issues and create a sustainable future. Being part of the young working adults, we understand the struggle to find the balance between the expectations or responsibilities of younger generations to solve climate change issue as well as our own priorities and focuses. We will share how climate change is actually connected to our focuses such as impacts to socio-economic, human health, the ocean and biodiversity.Giving speeches or knowledge transfer presentations in front of big crowds has been a challenge for both of us. We hope that by having this challenge, we can get support from friends, family and the public to step out of our comfort zone to share our passion with the participants of our talks.  Giving is not just about making DONATION, it is about making a DIFFERENCE. The Hughes sisters are coming together and going vegan for a month....which believe me, in Malaysia and Thailand, where we both live, is not easy!!! What's more, the Hughes' are the daughters of a former slaughterman and the sisters of a butcher.....we are expecting jibes and ridicule and hunger :p However, we are tough and determined to raise awareness and try to encourage more sensible decision making about where our food comes from. Lets support local farmers and local produce. Lets move away from plastic packaging. Lets live in a world that isn't on fire. Let the only fire be in your soul, the burning need to love and care for our planet. You can very easily demonstrate this by hitting our 'Donate' button and help us raise money for MareCet.
